As part of President Donald Trump's impeachment defense team, Alan Dershowitz is expected to argue on behalf of the president at the Senate trial early next week. But in a 2016 book he authored, the famed defense attorney called Trump a destabilizing and unpredictable candidate, warning that the then-presidential candidate openly embraces fringe conspiracy theories peddled by extremists.
Dershowitz wrote those statements in his book titled Electile Dysfunction: A Guide for Unaroused Voters.
In a phone call with NBC about his comments in the 2016 book, Dershowitz clarified his views about the president. I was campaigning for Hillary Clinton at the time. I hadnt really ever met President Trump and it was just typical campaign rhetoric," he said. "I would not repeat that characterization today having met him.
The onetime celebrity defense attorney and retired Harvard professor who often appears on cable news is the latest Trump defender to have at one time disparaged the president in harsh terms. Other examples include Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, who during the 2016 race called Trump a jackass and a race-baiting, xenophobic, religious bigot.

In the interest of full disclosure; I didn’t vote for Trump because he was “unstable and unpredictable”. I voted for him because he was the candidate not named Hillary. Unstable and unpredictable is exactly what we needed. I didn’t really believe he had a prayer in the beginning simply because he was an outsider. Praise the Lord the America made the right choice.
Trump IS destablizing and unpredictable. We embrace that, at least I do.
Hey PERVERT..that’s why we voted for him .
Your wife and millions more.
They say that like it is a bad thing.
The stable Washington is rife with crony capitalism, foreign influence and spineless politicians.
As for predictable, since when is predictable good?
He certainly has been destabilizing to the deep state. We want more such destabilization. I’d like to see real estate prices crash in the DC area while continuing to grow modestly nationwide.
I was far from crazy about Trump, because of his brashness. Pressure from FreeRepublic and my husband (mostly FR) put me over the edge and I voted for him in the primaries. I havent looked back, love, love him.
He found out, first hand, that the left is a group of lock step bigots, and if you disagree on any point, they will not only throw you under the bus, they will dump the toilet drippings on your dead body.
Alan may never admit it, but he might become a 'closet Trump voter'.
It is a shame that in America, many people are actually afraid to wear a hat that says, "Make America Great Again" .
Think about the state of the Country that that is even possible.
Well said.
Post 2-
Amen and amen
Spot-on
Dang right he’s unpredictable...another reason The Left can ne’er go toe-to-toe with him.
And the Swamp’s been overdue in being “destabilized.”
Alan Dershowitz is a conflicted guy, but he seems to be moving more towards the Right. Wonder if and when he’ll recognize that the Lying Left, despite their lying declarations, is the enemy of Israel and the Jews.
Absolutely
Trump needs to think twice about bringing Dershowitz into his inner circle. It’s nice when he takes Trump’s side, but he’s never been long-haul conservative or MAGA.
He has upset the whole deep state and they are pi$$3d. They are livid. How can this man diss them? How can he do thing they haven't authorized. They write talking points for meetings and he goes off script. What kind of President is that? /s/
I odn’t trust Dershowitz further than I can spit. i have no clue why he is a Fox News staple. He is two faced and duplicitous. He would say one thing on Fox and then another on MSNBC, until CNN banned him not long ago, then he started acting like he was always a Trump supporter. I don’t trust the turncoats, not even guys like Levin.
Sounds like another defense argument to make, Democrats say he did something with corrupt intent, if anything happened it was because that is in his nature to be suspicious and investigate. That’s why he was elected.
Isn’t destabilizing and unpredictable the same as disruptive and innovative, which are considered the ultimate indicators of success even in the liberal world?
I think Trump has now been accused of everything in the book..except maybe murder, animal abuse and taking extra condiments at a fast food joint?
The deep state in particular NEEDS to be destabilized with unpredictability!
