U.S. to evacuate its citizens from Wuhan, China

The United States is arranging a charter flight on Sunday to bring its citizens and diplomats back from the Chinese city of Wuhan, epicenter of the outbreak of a new coronavirus, the Wall Street Journal reported on Saturday.

The plane, with around 230 people, will carry diplomats from the U.S. consulate as well as U.S. citizens and their families, the Journal reported, citing a person familiar with the operation.

A spokesperson for the U.S. Embassy in Beijing said that on Thursday, the State Department had ordered the departure of family members and all U.S. government employees at its Wuhan consulate, but declined to comment on the report that other U.S. citizens would be evacuated from the city.

Along comes passenger number 237 in line, who immediately tests positive by fever, symptoms, regions in China visited and who spent time with sick family member before flying to the US.

He had been coughing in the airplane, which recirculates cabin air.

OOPS! We just cleared 236 previous passengers from that flight to leave the terminal into the US.

Let’s hope the screening process is better than this, because this is not contained.

Only question seemingly at this point is how bad is this virus

China reports that 250-350,000 could be infected in wuhan alone by February 4. Not good.

Went back and updated my order to ‘next day’. Each of the attempts resulted in “we’re sorry, there was an unknown error processing your request...working to resolve it for you”

Went to Lowe’s this morning and picked up 60 n95, latex gloves and six gallons of pool chlorine (10%)

Things I needed anyway...
Pool bleach...I’ll use it to pressure clean my roof tiles of mildew. Masks...I’ll use it to blow insulation into my attic in March. Latex gloves...use then ask the time for painting, bait prep, car work, cleaning my neighbors bang sticks, picking up piles, and I mean PILES of giant breed dog poop, planting etc.

But if I don’t prepare for the ones I love and me, who will?

Hurricane prep has taught us to prep early and because of this, we have carried on well after over three weeks without power.

Were possibly looking at preparing for a potential shelter in place for two+ months if this is pandemic.

Right now is get the things you need, will use and will sell fast if news gets bad. Looks like others are thinking the same as masks sell.

As news develops will modify as needed. If we see 20+ US cases mid next week with high mortality rate, the plan kicks to planning for potential shelter in place scenario second gear...

Air flight from Hong Kong to US mainland is about 15 hours,
in a tight, confined area which recirculates the already used and refreshed cabin air.
I hope that the State Dept. has planned accordingly (!!)
prior to their dispersal throughout the country.

Last official use of the Johnston Island runway that I saw was in 2007, and the runway had to be cleared before it was used. I think the Midway runway is still maintained for charter flights and emergency use.
