‘You’re a bunch of dopes and babies’: Inside Trump’s stunning tirade against generals
Washington Compost ^ | Jan 17, 2020 | Carol Leonnig, Philip Rucker

There is no more sacred room for military officers than 2E924 of the Pentagon, a windowless and secure vault where the Joint Chiefs of Staff meet regularly to wrestle with classified matters. Its more common name is “the Tank.” The Tank resembles a small corporate boardroom, with a gleaming golden oak table, leather swivel armchairs and other mid-century stylings. Inside its walls, flag officers observe a reverence and decorum for the wrenching decisions that have been made there.

Hanging prominently on one of the walls is The Peacemakers, a painting that depicts an 1865 Civil War strategy session with President Abraham Lincoln and his three service chiefs — Lieutenant General Ulysses S. Grant, Major General William Tecumseh Sherman, and Rear Admiral David Dixon Porter. One hundred fifty-two years after Lincoln hatched plans to preserve the Union, President Trump’s advisers staged an intervention inside the Tank to try to preserve the world order....

Trump organized his unorthodox worldview under the simplistic banner of “America First,” but Mattis, Tillerson, and Cohn feared his proposals were rash, barely considered, and a danger to America’s superpower standing. They also felt that many of Trump’s impulsive ideas stemmed from his lack of familiarity with U.S. history and, even, where countries were located. To have a useful discussion with him, the trio agreed, they had to create a basic knowledge, a shared language....

“You’re all losers,” Trump said. “You don’t know how to win anymore.”

Well, to me one life is one too many but I get that people die in a war and I get the original intent of going after OBL - a necessary mission.

But we’re still there...Hillary and friends screwed up the ME with their avarice and greed and who knows how many others contributed to massive resentment for our interference. Now that we’re energy independent - for now - seems to me the ME is less important.

I just wish we could leave the ME and tell them to pound sand.

I recall that Lincoln had some very unflattering things to say about some of generals specifically: McCellan, Hooker and Meade.

Also, no one could mistake Grant as a perfumed prince of Pennsylvania Ave. He was often covered w/ mud and drunk to the gills, but he fought like a mfer.

“You don’t know how to win anymore.”

Grampa Dave: “Find the enemy and destroy him. Otherwise, what’s the point?”

Rename the Department of Defense to the WAR Department. (Yes, All caps: WAR). Retire at half pay the non-fighting generals and admirals, and all that squat to pee.

Tighten up the military academies, that are now as worthless at their civilian counterparts. Stop the diversity recruiting.
DO IT NOW!

From the sound of it, they were talking down to him. And he didn’t take it well. They weren’t answering his core concerns. How do we win in Afghanistan, what would victory look like, and how do we get there. And if there is no victory that can be articulated, why are we there?

From this description, they were being extremely condescending, to the point of rudeness. That threw him into a rage. Sounds like he said some things in anger he shouldn't have said.

But, this reminds me of a story from early in the Gipper's term. Al Haig sat down with Reagan to explain why he needed to back a treaty, Law of the Sea IIRC. His argument was the treaty just codifies the way things have always been done. The Gipper responded that what this administration is about is not doing things the way they've always been done. Much more polite way of making he same point.

If I had confirmation this article is true, I would have a very difficult time supporting Trump since it demonstrates a total lack of military knowledge (not that I would support any of the D candidates). The military is not a business. The US is burdened with doing more than any other freedom-loving country on the planet since we saved them in WW2. The goal isn’t to make a profit.

Unfortunately our depended on trade with many other putative free and democratic regimes depends on THEM having access to Gull Oil. Whoever controls the Gulf allows or prevents oil from reaching our allies.

Perhaps we should be charging Japan et al for this policing action (or have them send their own Navy...) but total retreat is not an option.

As for Afghanistan et al, I and many others have advocated for decades that we should have done to the muslim Middle East on 9/12 what we did to Japan and Germany in WW2:

nuke some and flatten the rest.
Anyone alive after who wants to eat can take dejihadification classes or starve.

Reminds me of Henry Ford II after his grandad died. He shook the sh*t out of the old guard.

>>>What branch of the military did Trump serve in during the Vietnam era?<<<

The same one Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders did, but they don’t get any grief about it.

“Which they wanted to hand control of over to the UN”

The UN has pretty much had control since 1945.

Remember the story of Lincoln waiting for the General to return home, Lincoln in the guy’s parlor?

McClellan, who reminds me of Comey, comes in, and goes directly upstairs, leaving Lincoln in the parlor.

amazing...I don’t think he fired him right then, it came later.

What “world order”? There is no world order, nor is it our job (or within our means) to create one.

This entire story, every part and piece of it, serves only to remind exactly how the Uniparty came to power and managed stay in power.

Useless mouth breeders sucking up and swallowing down any spunk spun for them by the idiot media.

And also completely ignoring the fact that our military has been conditioned to lose since the Korean War. The last of any officers with a winning mindset were culled out in the post Vietnam draw-down.

And it’s only gotten worse since.

Semper Fi.

Grampa Dave: “Find the enemy and destroy him. Otherwise, what’s the point?”

Sounds like a plan and maybe Trump is considering something similar:

Rename the Department of Defense to the WAR Department. (Yes, All caps: WAR). Retire at half pay the non-fighting generals and admirals, and all that squat to pee.

Tighten up the military academies, that are now as worthless at their civilian counterparts. Stop the diversity recruiting.
