During a ceremony honoring the 2019 "Teachers of the Year," one in particular stood out.
The honoree from Minnesota, Kelly Holstine, chose to kneel during the national anthem at the NCAA football championship game on Monday, where the ceremony took place, "to stand up for marginalized and oppressed people," according to a tweet she wrote, which included a photograph of her kneeling.
"Like many before, I respectfully kneeled during Natl Anthem because, 'No one is free until we are all free,'" she wrote, referencing former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick and citing a quote from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Holstine, an English and language arts teacher at Tokata Learning Center in Shakopee, has been outspoken about her activism before.
She lead a TED Talk in October 2019 titled "Educators must be more than allies."
In her speech, she advocated for teachers to be willing to leave their comfort zones and "stand up for all of the human beings who are being marginalized or oppressed."
"Allies are wonderful and we need them, but it is not enough for educators to just be allies," she said. "We need them to be advocates too."
In April 2019, she was also one of two "Teachers of the Year" who skipped the White House ceremony, according to The Hill.
"The words and practices and policies of this administration have been filled with a lot of hate toward the LGBTQ community, so I didn't feel comfortable in that environment," Holstine told The Hill.

You just missed by a few months. The United States Census Bureau defines baby boomers as “individuals born in the United States between mid-1946 and mid-1964.”
Good eyes I would’ve missed it.
Looks like a Nike swoosh on it’s top.
Kneel like a Commie...
I’m gonna go out on a limb and guess that person is a rabid Trump-hating liberal.
I know, I know ..... it’s a bit of a stretch.
Still, that is my conclusion.
Yes, except in a lower form.
Lemme guess. Trump is not xer President?
‘Look at me! Look at me!’
yes I think this is at the bottom of it...
Kneel like a Commie...
Yeah, just before one to the back of the head.
Who isn’t free here? Tell me.
Stupid gneder confused twat.
WTF??? stooopid frunt
Should be fired.
short short hair, hates America, of she was awarded teacher of the year........ teach her a lesson and fire her.
She should be no where close to children.
I still say we should ‘accuse’ them of praying.
That way, the ACLU will get involved and put a stop to it immediately.
All PDJT has to do is recognize and thank her for saying a prayer during the anthem and it is nice to see so many athletes willingly pray in public.
I also believe that the President should sign an EO demanding everyone inhale and exhale on a regular basis.
Enough of ‘them’ won’t, just to be defiant.
That should end well for all.
Holstine.
How appropriate.
I respectfully kneeled during Natl Anthem
You have no understanding of what respect is.
“The statistics reveal that 40 million people are enslaved right now. About 20 million are trapped in labor slavery, about 5 million are exploited in sex slavery, about 15 million are enslaved in forced marriages. Women and girls account for 71 percent of the total; children are about 25 percent of the total. The study found that 89 million people have experienced some form of modern slavery during the past five years, ranging from a few days to several years.”

I don’t know what that thing is.
By the look of things, neither does it.
