Border Report gets first look at new wall at South Texas wildlife refuge
WKRG (Texas) ^ | Jan 13, 2020 | Sandra Sanchez

About 1 mile of a planned 3-mile section of new border wall has already gone up near the town of Fronton in western Starr County, Texas. This is only the second government project in South Texas that has metal bollards already erected, and this site is significantly further along than the one south of Donna in Hidalgo County. (Construction of a privately funded border wall on private property next to the Rio Grande also is underway south of Mission, Texas.)

Both government projects were started two months ago, but U.S. Border Patrol agents said that unlike the Donna project, this project in the Arroyo Ramirez Tract of the Lower Rio Grande National Wildlife Refuge does not involve the placement of metal bollards atop a levee wall, which complicates the construction. That is why construction is going at such a brisk pace...

In May, Kiewit Infrastructure West Company was awarded a $42 million government contract to build this isolated section of wall, which will include an all-weather road, floodlighting, underground sensors and overhead cameras, according to a Department of Homeland security news release.

Construction is to be completed within six months, Border Patrol agents said.

"New" mile of Border Wall, where no barrier previously existed. Now standing near Fronton, Texas.

This installation of "Wall System" infrastructure, along with tall bollards, includes cleared observation areas, high speed patrol road, cameras, sensors and alarms. This chaotic piece of the border in the Rio Grande Valley (the most trafficked sector), will finally be brought under operational control of the Border Patrol in just six short months.

This area (Fronton, Texas) is where drug cartel gunmen opened fire on Border Patrol Maritime Unit patrol boats with automatic weapons last year.

President Trump fought and fought for this wall. Along with diplomatic talks with the countries producing caravans, the President has disrupted the invasion of our country propogated by Obama.

It's winning alol the way....and I don't give a damn who's paying for it. It has t0o be costing less than harboring all these illegals that it has stopped.

the President has disrupted the invasion of our country propogated by Obama.

I guess the definite answer to that will be the 2020 elections, proving whether or not the Democrat scheme of getting additional votes from illegal aliens worked or not.

The Slats are spaced too widely as well. You can squeeze a whole lot of Drugs and skinny third world Kids through them.

So how does it work with a wall like this? Is the wall built on U.S. property, Mexican property, or some designated “no man’s land”? If it were on U.S. property, couldn’t “they” claim to be in the U.S. on the Mexican side of the wall? Curious.

Bollard? A comfortable seat halfway over the wall?

No, something that prevents people from easily climbing over the top of the Wall. I would even put a roller mechanism on the top just for laughs.

“Why is there not a big round Bollard on top of that Fencing?”

My guess is that is one of the special adaptations made for the local environment - specifically to minimize impeding water flow and wind load in the event of severe flooding and winds during hurricanes.

They have also galvanized their bollards for the moist environment, and expanded the gap between bollards to five inches (rather than the standard 4) to allow greater potential water flow during floods, and also to accommodate the skull size of the endangered local ocelots, and provide them access to the river.

OOps, Sorry.

I posted about the wrong thread in response to your question. I have another thread running about Fisher’s Riverwall, now under construction near Mission, Texas (more “New” miles, http://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3807850/posts )

“Why is there not a big round Bollard on top of that Fencing?”

The Military is generally following behind the installation of new bollard barrier like this, and stringing concertina wire on the American side, which really makes it tougher against ladder/rope attacks.

Not sure...they said there was inground electronics...and cameras on top. Diversity might be enough to confuse them.

The Butterfly reserve is a farce. A few years back, the land was an onion farm. The butterflies were NOT theree to start with.

Border Patrol Chief Carla Provost has increased the number of Trump-style, super Border Wall System miles in the pipeline (now a total of 576, vs. 509 before). This probably includes 67 miles from the newly approved 2020 appropriations.

As of last Friday (10 Jan 2020):

I don't give a damn who's paying for it.

It was brilliant how candidate Trump added that issue on top of the border wall issue to raise the stakes and control the narrative.

Instead of declaring the wall impossible to build and/or too costly, all of a sudden the original concept was accepted when Trump baited them into changing their narrative to "Impossible! Mexico will never pay for it." It's as if he was haggling and his counter-offer was higher than the original price.

In the 2020 election cycle, he can point out all the miles of wall he has built, and when he is called out on the lack of Mexico payment he can say, "Oh well."

Quite the slight of hand by The Great Trumpini.
