Patrick Stewart returns to Star Trek and the role of Jean-Luc Picard in a new CBS streaming show, but the reason it exists at all is, unsurprisingly, political. The liberal actor told Variety this week that Picard is me responding to the world of Brexit and Trump. He also said that the United States (under Trump) and Britain (under Conservative Prime Minister Boris Johnson) are completely f****d.
Talking to Varietys Daniel Holloway, Stewart explained why his character is getting a revival:
Trump seemed to be responsible for a lot of old TV shows coming back. In 2018, the creator of the '80s/'90s sitcom Murphy Brown explained why that show returned: We definitely wouldn't have had the show if Trump hadnt won. She added, We didn't have a motivation do it. We didn't really have the meat or a story. And then when the election happened, I mean, if Hillary had won, we would just be dancing in the streets.
Stewart connected the United States, Britain, Brexit, Trump and Johnson into one political lament:
Im not sure which one of us is in the most trouble, he says of Britain and the United States. I think its actually the U.K. I think were fed, completely fed. He points to studies predicting decades-long economic damage inflicted by the countrys looming withdrawal from the European Union. Of the U.S., he says, There is a time limit to your fed state, which is four years away. He expresses hope that the United States that has given us the Trump administration can change...
But, the actor added, He will likely get reelected..
In November of 2019, Stewart told a French audience that hes embarrassed by Brexit and thinks its a disgrace.

Much as I liked TNG, he can go eff himself.
The show is DOA.
I disagree. I thought Captain Janeway on Star Trek Voyager earned that title.
Once you play French, you cant go back.
Stupid bastards have a death wish and want to force it on everyone else. STFU and entertain as an actor, STFU and sing, STFU and report the news.
As a “consumer” I make it a point to never send my money to people who feel compelled to preach their leftist nonsense, insofar as possible. And it is very possible.
He was about as French as William Shakespeare.
He’s Buggus Dickus now.
I’d say there were two. Too bad I can’t put my finger on them though.
Oh, I foresee a FLOP in Stewart’s future.
The Next Generation was a community college faculty meeting
I tell trekkies that TOS was a sort of "John Wayne" variety of Trek, while TNG was more an "Alan Alda" variety.
[[[Pretty funny. I remember when TNG first came out. I called it Star Trek for women.]]]
LOL. What a putrid series. A wimp fest.
I used to call it, “The Next Imitation”.
Kirk would have kicked Picards ass then bedded his woman. All in the same episode.
[[[Who here remembers “I Claudius”? ]]]
I do. All 852 parts.
I do! I do! “I Claudius” was very good!
[[Yep. They added an officer to the ship just to have a Ships Counselor who had super-empathy to detect feelings. Then they gave her a seat on the bridge right next to the Captain. Thats some cucked up **** right there.]]
Counselor Diana Cleavage
example number 462 why hollywood has imploded.
Picard brought his high school guidance counselor along!
Counselor Menage A Trois
Pardon me while I stroke out.
I liked her. I always thought she was twice the man that Picard could ever dream of being.
