Patrick Stewart returns to Star Trek and the role of Jean-Luc Picard in a new CBS streaming show, but the reason it exists at all is, unsurprisingly, political. The liberal actor told Variety this week that Picard is me responding to the world of Brexit and Trump. He also said that the United States (under Trump) and Britain (under Conservative Prime Minister Boris Johnson) are completely f****d.
Talking to Varietys Daniel Holloway, Stewart explained why his character is getting a revival:
Trump seemed to be responsible for a lot of old TV shows coming back. In 2018, the creator of the '80s/'90s sitcom Murphy Brown explained why that show returned: We definitely wouldn't have had the show if Trump hadnt won. She added, We didn't have a motivation do it. We didn't really have the meat or a story. And then when the election happened, I mean, if Hillary had won, we would just be dancing in the streets.
Stewart connected the United States, Britain, Brexit, Trump and Johnson into one political lament:
Im not sure which one of us is in the most trouble, he says of Britain and the United States. I think its actually the U.K. I think were fed, completely fed. He points to studies predicting decades-long economic damage inflicted by the countrys looming withdrawal from the European Union. Of the U.S., he says, There is a time limit to your fed state, which is four years away. He expresses hope that the United States that has given us the Trump administration can change...
But, the actor added, He will likely get reelected..
In November of 2019, Stewart told a French audience that hes embarrassed by Brexit and thinks its a disgrace.

Whatever. I guess he didn’t get Ricky’s memo.
I can understand Mr Stewart having an opinioneven if it is of another country’s politics. But why would he be willing to share an opinion that will alienate half of his project’s potential viewers? That doesn’t make sense to me.
Hey Patrick Stewart ... There are FOUR lights!
The second question no Star Trek fan wanted to ask: "Why?"
bttt
ROTFL! I’m stealing that!
Don’t make it; so.
Best SF series is The Expanse!
This guy makes me puke any more. I absolutely refuse to watch or care about any thing he thinks, does, or says. He is invisible and useless to my like.
Sounds great, Pat, won’t be watching.
Lost in Space.
Stick to acting, old man.
Oh my lord. Can we just have entertainment be entertainment? It doesnt need to send a message. Although Trek shows have always done that.
I wish the message was that fat 60 year old men are the best lovers around. That would be a message from which I could benefit.
They would trick you though. There would be a commercial showing one of the leads getting shot and a big explosion and voiceover saying something like "The crew faces a mortal threat that could destroy the galaxy on the next STAR TREK THE NEXT GENERATION!" And then in the first couple of minuted you find out that the cast member getting shot was just a computer simulation. They you discover the mortal threat to the galaxy is two planets that don't get along and have been writing each other strongly worded letters for some time but they control the supply of some fake element that powers a fake thing that's really important so it's important that they get along so Picard throws them a party where they stand around and talk mean until he shows them that they are more alike than they had thought. Meanwhile, in a side story, a kid in the kindergarten has a project he needs help with to wow the other children so the robot crewmember helps him create simulated explosion holograms that show up in the trailer make another boring diplomacy episode look like an adventure story in the commercials. The end.
Making shows that people SHOULD watch for their own good usually doesn’t end well.
Im tired of movies aimed at senior citizens by senior citizens playing action heroes.
But equally tired of action movies with the main action character being a 90lb girl ready to beat up grown men!
Hardeharhar!!!
Like that last Death Wish movie made when Bronson was 74? Absolute joke!
No, not the orginal, it was a space western.
Kirk says, shut the hell up picard. The 24th century sucks, commie crap.
