Iranian state television said on Wednesday that at least 80 "American terrorists" were killed in attacks involving 15 missiles Tehran launched on U.S. targets in Iraq, adding that none of the missiles were intercepted. State TV, citing a senior Revolutionary Guards source, also said Iran had 100 other targets in the region in its sights if Washington took any retaliatory measures. It also said U.S. helicopters and military equipment were "severely damaged".

The Iranians did a face saving missile attack. I got to give some credit for the Iranians in being rational. Any attack that would have resulted in casualties would invite a massive US response. We shall see if the Iranians have their proxies do the real attacks.

I think the time is on our side. The Iranian economy is ***t, as recent events have shown the Iranian people hate the regime with the security forces killing thousands of their own people.

Here’s what the people I know in Iran say (and this is not representative of all Iranians - mostly the urban, anti-clerical ones):
1. The death of Soleimani has temporarily brought the people to agree with the Ayatollahs in PROTESTING
2. The people don’t want a war with the USA - they KNOW they will lose and they don’t want the Ayatollahs to win
3. the Ayatollahs are clothing themselves in patriotism, just as Stalin did in 1941. The people see through this
4. But there is still outrage that an Iranian general was killed so openly. There are murmurings of Mossadegh
If the Ayatollahs openly launched a war, people would not support it.
With this bombardment, the masses in Tehran seem “satisfied” - it’s probably different in other areas.
Now to reality - in the event of a war, Iran loses, the USA loses (less but still) and the only real winner is Saudi Arabia.

My proposal is to drop tens of thousands of small caliper handguns into the cities with the most protests. Inscribe on each one : Freedom is not free with a cross and a crescent.
Trump is in an “interesting spot” here. As CiC he has to defend American troops that have been fired upon. But there is no AUMF specific to military operations against Iran. Would congress give him one? I doubt it. Frankly, the Democrat party would probably implode if asked. Nancy knows this and would be like George Wallace standing in the college doorway to prevent the vote.
Trump’s best move now is to ask Congress for an authorization of military force. If Congress doesn’t give him one, the consequences of the next Iranian attack will be on them.

the problem I see with that is that each time the USA has armed different folks to fight against their governments, it turns around and bites the USA in the ass.
Right now the Ayatollahs have done a wonderful job of making Iranians hate Islam. The mosques are empty, people are taking to nationalism (and to be fair, with 2500 years of history - or 4000 if you count the Elamites, the Iranians have a deep hsitory) and many are converting to Christianity or secretly to Zoroastrianism, and many more are athiests.
