Hiker, 28, is killed when 200-foot redwood falls on top of him on national park dirt trail
Subhradeep Dutta, 28, of Edina, Minnesota, was hiking at Muir National Woods Monument north of San Francisco with two other people Tuesday.
Five giant redwood trees suddenly fell while the trio were on a marked dirt trail about 4.30pm, including a 200-foot tree that struck Dutta. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A female hiker also was injured by falling debris and treated at a nearby hospital. A second man was not hurt The trees may have fallen due to wet ground that became soaked after a series of winter storms hit the area in recent weeks, say authorities
Subhradeep Dutta, who is from Edina, Minnesota, was pronounced dead at the scene after he was struck by the tree about 4.30 p.m. on Tuesday, confirmed the Marin County coroner's office and a park spokesman.
The trunk of the tree measured 4-feet in diameter.

‘tis but a flesh wound.
This is why I’ll not go for chemo, etc. if I ever get cancer.
That is the worry in our neck of the woods when a tropical storm or hurricane moved in. Lots of rain prior to the arrival of the winds soaks the ground and isolated trees get pushed over when the winds show up.
Chemo prolonged my husband's life. We were both grateful for those extra years.

Im surprised some guys death is a place for everyone to drop their one-liners, this thread doesnt reflect well on Conservatives at all
You sound like a whiny liberal.
It was a dirt trail as opposed to a paved Granny Trail
Hiking in Muir National Woods Monument was beautiful when we were there.
Those trees have been there for a LONG time,
statistically weird that they fell at just that time together,
sounds like underground water from heavy rainfall
undercut local root systems
Yeah, sorry snowflake.
You can be terrified of death, become depressed, and tearfully hide from the inevitable. Or you can laugh at death and go bravely forward.
You have chosen your path, and I have chosen the direct opposite.
You have chosen to Express your outrage at the path I have chosen.
It should come as no surprise that I express mockery at the path you have chosen.
I will still continue to spend as much time as I have in the local woods. I’m not going to worry about falling trees or sink holes or any of the disasters that can happen. If I die someplace out in the woods its not a tragedy, this world is but for a time anyway. And I will go to God having lived and laughed.
Redwoods are really big Widow Makers.

We can’t bring God down to our level and try to rationalize circumstances based on what’s in our minds.
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.” Isaiah 55:8 King James Version (KJV)
Never trust a Palm tree.
for what possible reason would a good deity create a person, giving him 28 years to form the basis of his entire future, then snuff the guy in a freakish occurrence that might happen once every century, thus rendering the life he did allow him to be devoid of any substantial meaning...?<<
And the answer has always been, when we can know all the deity knows, the question can be answered. Is free will the answer? Is there a butterfly in the equation? How is there evil in the world? If you trust God, that is an answer and it is not in knowledge but belief. It is also non epistemological and thus proofs are just linguist jibber jabber.
Happy Holidays!

imagine the odds of getting hit by a falling redwood? They could hike through the woods daily for 10,000 years and probably not repeat what happened.
Subhradeep Dutta, 28, of Edina, Minnesota.............
Finally can answer the question, “If a tree falls in the woods........................
I always watch out for trees when I hike.
They can fail anytime
...They could hike through the woods daily for 10,000 years and probably not repeat what happened.
But if 1,000,000 people walk in the same forest over 100yrs, the statistics become more believable that one would die from a freak tree falling accident
That leaf existed just for me. And I do appreciate it.
