The Trump administration on Friday said it has finalized a decision to roll back a George W. Bush-era rule to phase out incandescent light bulbs, saying that requirements for energy efficient bulbs would be costly to consumers.
The administration finalized a proposal made in September to roll back the standard that was to come into effect next year. The move has been challenged by 16 states including New York and California who say it would harm state efforts to fight climate change.

That said, LED lighting has its place in TV and monitor displays, especially in the new 4k ultra-high definition TV's.
I was just raised on gas stoves...It was hard going to electric...But at 75...not a big problem.
Hated the Compact Florescent Lights (mercury in their disposal)...and did the regular lights until they started making LED lights with sunlight spectra. Now I have LEDs with millions of color choices (and special schemes like fire crackling) and controlled by Alexa. Each room (even each light) on off dimmed and color by voice. Being woken by light and sound is interesting.

Problem doesn't exist with incandescent.
I have many extra incandescent lights because over the years I’ve been replacing them with diodes which I like better. They’re now getting cheaper. There was a sale at a hardware store. 4 60 ‘watt’ diodes for $10.
i will say one positive for energy efficient night lights- they only cost like .07 cents per year to keep on all the time- or something ridiculous like that- we put them everywhere- on porch, in halls etc- and they have plenty of light - but we don’t use them for small energy draw- they are supposed to last for a long time- regular night lights burn out every other week it seems- however, for regular bulbs, gimme the old fashioned
with regular bulbs now, and high flow toilets back in our future possible, we can now see if the toilet flushes properly or not-
The act was sucesscful in accelerating the cheap availability of LED bulbs. Consumers have a choice. If they want or need heat bulbs and are willing to pay for the kwh, so be it.
Both are good reasons. I was very like your mother.
My cataracts came at an early age, and even with reading glasses, normal print with that bad light prevented my reading. I bought a large screen monitor and used it in my office, hooked up to my windows laptop. I fell in love with Kindle as I could rock in my easy chair and read from my large screen monitor.
After, I had cataract removal surgery and got accommodating lenses, I was able to go back to a lap top and read regardless of the light. I went to a 15 inch Chrome book, and I am on my second one.
I read about 1 kindle every couple of weeks and a printed book or two every couple of weeks.
At this time of day I don’t need reading glasses nor any light besides normal daylight from a big window and sliding glass door.
My wife developed cataracts later in life, and went years before the eye docs said “You need to have them removed.”
She received the normal inner lenses and needs zero light unless it is too dark to read.
We did replace our kitchen and bath room old fluorescent tubes with the new ones. They might last us to the end of our time.
No problem with them.
The thing I consider more in this discussion is reducing the load on existing power transmission lines. LEDs help, along with efficient appliances. Allows more time before transmission capacity must be increased by restringing with larger wire or paralleling the runs. Theyve already widely bumped voltage up to reduce the amps, but that only goes so far.
Roll back CAFE and make a real difference.
Mom had ARMD (Age related macular degeneration), but she LOVED to read. Her tastes ran from Nicholas Sparks to David Balducchi, to John Grishom, to Tom Wolf and lots in between. We would mail books to each other and discuss them on the phone (I lived far away), and we both would have strong opinions. It was better than being in a book club!
She didn’t like Steinbeck (neither did I) and she didn’t like Ayn Rand (I DO!) but we usually agreed on things.
I miss her.
I have a steel encased twin floodlight over my garage entrance c. 1963
Guess what? Almost all the new plastic LED lamps that fit the
socket threads dont reach far down enough to make contact and
light - FAIL
Guess who found a box of GE replacement glass bulbs
from some other N. American nation?
Isnt necessary anymore considering how good LEDs are.
Those that still want them should be able to without some massive markup due to regulatory barriers.
I miss my mom a lot at Christmas time.
Ahhh, Christmas gatherings in the warm glow of tungsten lights, the heat coming up from behind the TV from its glowing vacuum tubes, the big paint-dipped Christmas lights on the house, the shiny electric percolator burping some great coffee aroma...
Don’t forget the solid lead tinsel on the Christmas Tree, which had to be watered several times a day to keep it from bursting into flames! :-)
Oh that’s Hysterical! ROTFlOL!!!

we just bought one today for our granddaughter.
