Monday on the radio, LevinTV host Mark Levin gave credit to his neighbor for making a very good point about the impeachment effort against President Donald Trump. Levin said his neighbor believes that the Democrats want to impeach Trump to have an excuse not to let him appoint another justice to the Supreme Court — whether he wins re-election or not.
“I’ll bet he’s right. I’ll bet that’s part of the calculation,” Levin said. “That they want to claim that they’ve crippled this lawless president, that the Republicans wouldn’t remove him from office, and there is no way that the Democrats will ever agree to him making another Supreme Court appointment, either in the next eleven months or, as I say, should he get re-elected and in the four years subsequent to his first term.”

They’ll try to link “impeached” to everything Trump does for the next 5 years. It’s a dark stain they can point to, ridicule, and impute it as proof of evilness.
It won’t actually stop Trump from appointing pretty much any judge he wants.
Hopefully the next election will be a rout of the Left, leaving a small (but obnoxious) minority which he can just work around.
It’s really about all of it.
Looks to me more and more there is a good chance RBG lasts longer than the country. So it really doesn’t matter.

I may be wrong, but I don’t believe a president can appoint a SCOTUS if he is currently under House or Senate Impeachment procedures.
I didn’t read the whole article. Does he explain why Pence wouldn’t also be a problem for the Dems, by picking conservatives for the court?
I think “impeachment” is about keeping the Republicans as a reliable half of the deep-state.
Trump being gone before 2020 means he has no legacy in the GOP and the party returns to the control of people like Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan.

The House has no say in the matter. The say is restricted to the President to appoint whom ever he wants and the Senate to concur.

Agreed. The gavel and POTUS may change hands but the long term play is the SCOTUS picks. The RATS think and look much longer term than the GOP.
Of course it is. I’d say by their urgency, RBG’s demise is imminent. It won’t matter though. Trump will choose her replacement. The tears of the Leftists will be delicious. The shrieking during the Kavanaugh hearing will pale in comparison. I would not be at all surprised by an attempted suicide bombing.

Many of the players are known cheaters who should be barred for life..but no one has been so much as fined ..let alone barred for life?
