South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg, a Democratic presidential candidate, criticized the Hallmark Channels decision to pull four TV ads featuring a lesbian couple after a petition by a conservative group.
Families are built on loveno matter what they look like, Buttigieg, the first openly gay Democratic presidential candidate, tweeted Sunday.
The channel pulled four ads for wedding planning website Zola featuring brides getting married and kissing after conservative group One Million Moms, a branch of the American Family Association, posted a petition claiming the commercial was not family friendly.
Being family friendly means honoring love, not censoring difference, Buttigieg said.
This truth will be more important than ever as we rebuild our nation into a place defined by belonging, not by exclusion, he added.
The New York Times reported the news of the ads being pulled Friday.
A spokesperson for the channel told the Times the decision not to air overt public displays of affection in our sponsored advertisement, regardless of the participants, is in line with our current policy, which includes not featuring political advertisements, offensive language, R-rated movie content and many other categories.
Zolas chief marketing officer, Mike Chi, said a commercial featuring a heterosexual couple kissing was approved by the channel.

Shut up you pickle-smoker.
Sorry Petey. If it’s bad for business, business will do what’s best for itself.
Whether you like it or not.
Welcome to Reality.
You have to push the homosexual agenda AND the muslim invasion, if you are “woke”.
The company is censoring itself?
You know, I don’t miss TV at all.
“The family unit is a husband and wife and their children.”
I’m sure you mean a man husband and a woman wife but some disagree with that.
To those disagreers I’d say public displays of physical intimacy regardless whether between the same or different sexes make many of you uncomfortable. And gay physical intimacy in public makes even more of you uncomfortable.
A major reason for the discomfort is knowing that children are watching. If children aren’t watching, such as in an an adult entertainment place, who cares?
Yes, Buttigieg, love is one of the foundations of a good family. So is protecting their children from public indecency.
You mean, a company actually changed policy due to conservative complaints about immorality?
Yep. They'll be celebrating sodomy soon enough.
BUT censoring TRUTH is quite alright w Pete......
Zola should try airing the ad on Al-Jazeera and see what Buutigieg says then.
It’s not about our entertainment world’s morals, it’s about their power and control of us.
They want to force acceptance of difference. Anyone who doesnt fully embrace difference is accused of censoring.
I am hoping that it will intensify also. I am tired of this being pushed on me
I give hallmark 3 days before they fold.
It has already happened:
Hallmark Reverses Decision To Ban Zola Ad With Same-Sex Couple; CEO Apologizes
In less than 24 hours (?), Hallmark changed its decision.
Hey little Petey, I’d tell you to stick it, but you’d like that, wouldn’t you. Get your own channel. Oh, I forgot, you’ve got a bunch. You’re with the MSM. You can’t even run a city. What makes you think you can run the country? Buzz off and go back to South Bend.
I wonder if Pete would be OK with a commercial that showed a couple kissing under the confederate flag, or a couple of gay men at the range shooting at targets together with their friends.
I doubt it.
And where was Pete when Twitter, Google, Facebook and others stopped certain messages from being published?
