Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop said Friday its his opinion that the shooters who killed a police officer and three civilians on Tuesday afternoon had an even more sinister objective - killing students at a religious school next door.
My opinion is that as more info comes out itll become increasingly clear that the target was the 50 children at the Yeshiva attached to that store, the mayor wrote on Twitter just after 8 a.m. We will never know 100% but the doorway to the yeshiva was 3 feet away (and) it seems he goes in that direction 1st.
Authorities say David Anderson, 47, and Francine Graham, 50, shot and killed a Jersey City police detective in a nearby cemetery before traveling in a van to the grocery store on Martin Luther King Drive, where they gunned down two Orthodox Jews as well as an employee. A fourth person escaped.
Two police officers were injured as Anderson and Graham exchanged gunfire with officers for more than three hours.
Jersey City public safety director James Shea agreed that the shooters planned to cause additional harm.

MORE of a horror.
What happened was already a horror.
But YES, I know what you’re saying and you’re right.
a much more WIDESPREAD horror.
Thank God it didn’t get worse
It looks like these places need additional security. I wonder what stopped them from entering the school?
‘I wonder what stopped them from entering the school?’
obviously it was the ‘gun free zone’ sign...
Children in a Yeshiva? That could have been a horror show.
I always thought that a Yeshiva was a university-level school for Rabbi’s. I formed that impression years ago, when I had a housemate who graduated first in his class from a top Yeshiva in NYC, but then decided he wanted to be a Christian rather that a Rabbi.
All cultures are equal, right? /s
Quite possibly, a locked door and no signage. The killers may not even have been aware of the school depending on when they scouted the store.
Two cops engaged them within a minute of their attacking store.
Whatever the reason this carnage could have been worse than the horror it was.
Did they carry so much ammo for a shootout with police? Or expecting more victims than could be found in a local grocery? They said the grocery was targeted.
I think it’s more of a religious-oriented Jewish high school.
Too bad Jews can’t have firearms for self defense in NJ.
There is street footage showing a young boy running to the school - maybe just late - reaching the school door, becoming aware of the shooter crossing the street, and running away again.
The school door is three feet from the grocery door. It is steel with a push button combo lock. Hebrew lettering on glass above door. Footage through this glass from the security camera shows the shooter heading directly for this door, pausing, and side stepping to the grocery.
Thanks for the info. No idea which branch my friends family practiced. His family were stereotypical, mostly jewelers, art dealers, doctors and Hollywood people. He was to be the designated Rabbi.
I don’t actually watch the news so thanks for the detailed play by play of that frightening video. Could have been so much worse than the bad enough tragedy.
Werent the shooters members of the same sect of assholes who taunted the Covington kids?

But at least it wasn't domestic terrorism -- we know, because no imaginary white supremacists were involved.
Yeshiva is a Jewish religious school, and can teach students at any level, including elementary.

Those imaginary white supremacists can be deadly. Their malevolent power is now on display weekly on the new Watchmen HBO series, dedicated to taking a great comic book and movie and marring it beyond all recognition with PC BS. And if it’s on HBO, it must be true./s
