WASHINGTON (AP) The House Judiciary Committee abruptly postponed a historic vote late Thursday on articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump, shutting down a nearly 14-hour session that dragged with partisanship but had been expected to end with the formal charges being sent to the full House for a vote next week.
Approval of the two charges against the president is still expected Friday in the committee. But the sudden turn punctuated the deep split in the Congress, and the nation, over impeaching the president. The committee, made up of some of the most strident lawmakers, clashed all day and into the night as Republicans insisted on lengthy debate over amendments designed to kill the two formal charges against the president. But they had no hope of winning votes from the majority Democrats.
Chairman Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., said the committee would resume at 10 a.m. Friday.

The Republicans on the panel, blindsided by the move, were livid. When Nadler announced that the committee wouldnt vote until the morning, gasps were heard at the dais, and Republicans immediately started yelling unbelievable and they just want to be on TV. Congress is set to be out of session on Friday and many lawmakers had other plans, some outside of Washington.

I understand this is the committee vote, but to delay it is an indication to me, that there’s something else in play.
There’s no other reason for delay.
These are people attacking the United States.
The fact that they happen to be sitting Congresscritters and Senators is happenstance in that regard
Their public favorability ratings are circling the drain and Nancy knows it so this stunt of postponing the vote till Friday mornig will hopefully give them better exposure and therefore hopefully get their favorability ratings up out of the gutter some. Nads and Nancy are going to try and use every dirty trick they can to complete this coup and finally start acting like they're doing their job on jobs creation and other serious economic issues that they should have been looking after all along.
Their socialistic styled coup attempt as we all know has gone beyond the point of blowing up in their face that their own rank and file middle of the road party members are starting to turn against the leadership and are starting to desert them. There seems to be a growing sense that their vote just might actually fail after it is said and done when the question is put to a vote.
Maybe more Democrat “no” votes. They don’t want to go home and have to justify their votes
Maybe, but there’s little doubt that 20-percent of the 2017 Labour Party voters failed to show up, and to be honest....there’s only 300,000 extra voters around for Boris (over what happened in 2017).
I think alot of this Brit vote was simply about disenchantment with Labour ‘normal’ voters, who just stayed home. That may end up being the bigger story.
Also a good possibility he did it in hopes of stemming the tide of defecting Dems. As this drags on the Democrat party is taking a beating in the polls and Trumps numbers are going up which makes more Dems think about their futures come November. Just saying that this could be a consideration too.
That made me LOL
I pray that unlucky Friday the 13th slaps them upside the head with a horrible surprise from within the ranks.
I try...
Since this is all theatrical politics, do the Republicans even need to show up to vote today?
Can they hold the vote, if Republicans boycott the day? Snub the entire sham committee?
I do recognize it is a party line vote with a 24-17 bias anyway.
But...if they do have to be present to vote...kind of sweet to maybe have Collins offer it as more time to ‘think about what the Democrats are about to do.’
If we’re going for political theater...let’s go for it!
This was done to make sure the media would cover it. Don’t read anything into it.
The DEMs need to manufacture a poll saying impeachment is necessary by at least 55%, then they’ll take the vote. They want the cover of saying the American people wish for impeachment, a lie as big as any of the “evidence” provided so far.
Except that he can. And the Republicans don't like it. But it shows who is in charge.
This is the committee vote. I expect that the Democrats on the committee would have voted unanimously to impeach last night and will vote unanimously tomorrow.
Friday the 13th—what could possibly go wrong? ;-)
They are on the edge of a cliff.
They need time to decide if they want to jump off that cliff.
If they don’t want to jump, how can they back away from the cliff?
It is clear that impeachment has not hurt President Trump. They have not been able to split the President from his base, and in fact he is gaining independent voters who are tired of all this.
They also know if they vote for impeachment, the Senate could expose their lies (the ones we know and the ones we don’t know). They will lose control over the narrative.
Last, as others had commented on, the vote in the UK where the “conservative” party had a landslide victory not seen since the 1950s. The trend around the world is moving away from the left back to the center and even NATIONALISM.
My guess is that they trying to figure out the best way to end this without destroying the Democrat Party. President Trump has played them from the beginning. Which is what happens when you believe your own lies.
It could go either way but I would not be surprised if some of the Democrats vote no and the process dies, and they all go home.
Maybe Nadler didn’t have the votes last night.
But down deep in my gut......something must be wrong that they didn't have that vote last night.
Sounds like they realized they dont have the votes.
