House Judiciary Committee postpones historic impeachment vote after marathon session

WASHINGTON (AP) — The House Judiciary Committee abruptly postponed a historic vote late Thursday on articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump, shutting down a nearly 14-hour session that dragged with partisanship but had been expected to end with the formal charges being sent to the full House for a vote next week.

Approval of the two charges against the president is still expected Friday in the committee. But the sudden turn punctuated the deep split in the Congress, and the nation, over impeaching the president. The committee, made up of some of the most strident lawmakers, clashed all day and into the night as Republicans insisted on lengthy debate over amendments designed to kill the two formal charges against the president. But they had no hope of winning votes from the majority Democrats.

Chairman Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., said the committee would resume at 10 a.m. Friday.

The Republicans on the panel, blindsided by the move, were livid. When Nadler announced that the committee wouldn’t vote until the morning, gasps were heard at the dais, and Republicans immediately started yelling “unbelievable” and “they just want to be on TV.” Congress is set to be out of session on Friday and many lawmakers had other plans, some outside of Washington.

“This is the kangaroo court that we’re talking about” stormed Rep. Doug Collins of Georgia, the top Republican on the panel, who said he had not been consulted on the decision. “ They do not care about rules, they have one thing, their hatred of Donald Trump.”

That should be repeated this morning.

Funny thing about rules. When they go away they go away for everybody.

Just a humble opinion...I think Nadler has at least two shaky Democratic votes on the committee. Maybe throughout the whole House, there might be ten Democratic ‘no’ votes.

The House wasn’t even supposed to be in Session today (Friday).

A FRIVOLOUS impeachment vote is a SEDITIOUS CONSPIRACY

Wow...why delay? Do they think they have a republican that will vote for impeachment to make things look bipartisan?

If there’s a turn-coat amongst them after all this...may he be hoisted on his own petard!

What threats are they making in the backroom? What’s in the funding bill currently on the floor to keep the government open that they know is a no go for republicans? There’s something hidden we’re not seeing?

Are they threatening something somewhere else in the House?

Give the Dems a night to whip up the vote.

More handouts to the elected dem masses provided by the American working class. Just enough to buy a vote but not draw attention

My take on this is that the Democrats watched the UK election results last night and are absolutely alarmed over their prospects in 2020 right now.

The House wasn’t even supposed to be in Session today (Friday).

Nadless blew up everyone's work schedule which may have included travel plans. It's all for TV face time. They'll do it on Friday the 13th right before Rush continues narrating the news on his radio show. Not a very bright move.

Nadler did it because he can and because he knew it would piss off the Republicans.

Now we know why Nadler replaced Schiff.

They needed someone who could blink...

That, and Nancy might need time to whip. They might not have the votes.
The more this clown show is exposed, the fewer of the “almost rational” democrats will want anything to do with it.

This is the committee vote, not the House vote. Pelosi knows she has the votes, she may be many things but stupid isn't one of them.

I think Nadler, Schiff & Pelosi, and the Democrats got big trouble on their hands after the massive victory of British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson & his Conservatives last evening just totally destroyed the British Labor Party to pieces. The political beating was so bad that it will Take “Labor” at least twenty years to bounce back...if they bounce back at all. Welcome, Boris & Brexit...glad you are here...UK & USA now set to really rock positive!!!

Democrats beware how you handle the Trump Impeachment today!!! Pelosi, Schiff & Nadler have sunk you bad!!!
