Gov. Ralph Northam (D) announced Monday his “assault weapons” ban will mean AR-15 owners can either register their guns with the government or hand them over.
The Virginia Mercury reported Northam spokeswoman Alena Yarmosky used a statement to say, “The governor’s assault weapons ban will include a grandfather clause for individuals who already own assault weapons, with the requirement they register their weapons before the end of a designated grace period.”
Yarmosky made clear details on other gun controls will be made known before the start of the 2020 session in which Democrats take charge.

I agree about the AR-15, ever since 1970 when I was issued a M-16A1 in RVN. Much prefer the Kalashnikov except it makes a funny sound that draws fire.
But Dear Leader Northam is going to create a DiFi style list of banned weapons based upon the usual scary features, for all makes & models.
Hope the NRA/ILA keeps an eye on VA & other states’ preparations for weapons seizures, like SWAT equipment & vehicle acquisitions, riot training, and especially how Richmond plans to dragoon local law enforcement into assisting with kicking in doors.
This is a culture war writ large; NoVa on one side & the rest of the Old Dominion on the other.
Northam might even go full Nazi and declare peaceable assembly for gun rights as a form of insurrection and send in the jackbooted thugs.
I predict that CWII will start in VA.

They goal of the left in Northern VA is totalitarianism, at least until it arrives at their doorstep. But liberty will be gone long before that.
The Demon party is also redrawing districts to insulate their future grip.

That sounds plausible; alternatively most owners may just ignore him and silently not comply. The progs who will be running the state government will want incident so they could target individuals they know possess AR-15s and instigate violence. I wish the NRA would start lawfare with some of their resources. The VCDL is organizing the sanctuary county movement, but we need every 2A organization mobilized to stop Northam.
