On Friday, police showed up to a young man’s workplace and tried to arrest him over social media posts reported to them by an old army buddy of the 28-year-old Afghanistan veteran. This man, known as Alex and popular on Instagram under the handle of WhiskeyWarrior556, slipped out of the back door, hurried home to check on his family where he found out police had already forced themselves into his home and confiscated his legal firearms after threatening his wife with calling child protective services to remove her newborn child.

This information is incorrect. The law enforcement response and subsequent arrest was related to a domestic violence investigation. The social media frenzy heightened the stakes of the incident because law enforcement couldn’t get in touch with the community from the heavy overflow of calls and messages.” This post will flood me with anger from fellow Freepers, and I can deal with that, but I would like to hear what the Wife and Law enforcement have to say about this case.

“hemust” isn’t a word and spellcheck says so and while “think” is a word and is spelled correctly, proofreading through “Preview” you likely would have noticed that you really meant to say “thing” or that spellcheck had tricked you.

There are some here who give me a hard time for saying that very same thing with gun threads here. The dumbest thing you can do is jump in even here and make a public list of what you have. Having big chest muscles and no fear does not override the fact that there is a very fine line between bravery and stupidity. And what you have might be legal now but in two years they may not be. Too late... You already offered more information than you should have and gave them a publicly documented inventory list two years ago.
The FR is not a private members only club, it has public guest view access. And if you think they can’t find you without bothering Jim and John here I got news for you, just access and log into the FR from your phone or computer and they can be at your door within 1 day. Ask me how I know... While we should not let it intimidate us from talking about firearms, it is not prudent to post your entire inventory list, or anything that is not legal for where you are. Seriously, what they don’t know can’t hurt you...
Now if the FR were a private club, where you could only read it if you are a logged in member it would be greatly different. And there just might come a day when it might become necessary to do this for several reasons, but until then prudence is the wisest policy to protect the hosts here. There will become a time when mouths and statements made here will be getting the hosts in a lot of legal trouble. Then no one will have it, I have already seen this happen with several other websites in the past.

Yep. The old adage about common sense.....
It is very unfortunate it has now come to this. It should not at all be so. But the reality is, it has now indeed come to this. What you share ANYWHERE on the internet is being documented, and not even by the website it’s self, and everything you say can and will be held against you. In a legal system where you are guilty until you prove your innocence, every time you post something you had better be in the frame of mind you are actually exercising your Miranda rights and have the right to remain silent as to not incriminate yourself. And this is wrong and very very hard when you want to exercise your absolute right to free speech...
