Fight to Restart Federal Executions Could Go to Supreme Court: Attorney General.......

The administration is appealing a decision by a district court judge who ruled this week that the government cannot restart the executions...If the appeal is blocked, then Barr will take the case to the nation’s highest court...

Some of the inmates issued challenges in court after Barr announced in July that the government would resume executions, ending an informal moratorium on federal capital punishment as the issue receded from the public domain. The inmates argued that the government was circumventing proper methods in order to wrongly execute inmates quickly.

A number of high-profile Democrats oppose the death penalty, introducing bills in August shortly after Barr’s announcement...."The death penalty is “is too final and too prone to error. It fails as a deterrent. It is racially biased. And it is beneath us as a nation,” Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.)

President Donald Trump has said the death penalty does act as a deterrent and has recommended its use for some violent crimes, such as the killings of police officers.

The Pew Research Center also found in 2018 that 54 percent of Americans are in favor of the death penalty for people who are convicted with murder, while 39 percent opposed.

“Congress has expressly authorized the death penalty through legislation adopted by the people’s representatives in both houses of Congress and signed by the President,” Barr said in a statement.

“Under Administrations of both parties, the Department of Justice has sought the death penalty against the worst criminals, including these five murderers, each of whom was convicted by a jury of his peers after a full and fair proceeding. The Justice Department upholds the rule of law—and we owe it to the victims and their families to carry forward the sentence imposed by our justice system.”

That’s the plan.

“It fails as a deterrent.” Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.)

IN FACT, it is 100% effective as a deterrent. Ted Bundy, since being executed, has NOT killed again.

Exactly right.

Plenty of people who have been convicted of murder, but who have not been executed, and have gone on to kill again. Either inside the prison or upon release. Had they been executed after their conviction, lives would have been saved.

The Death Penalty is a good thing. The pearl clutchers who are terrified that an innocent man might be convicted and executed are focused on the wrong thing. Their concern MIGHT happen but is highly unlikely. But convicted murderers do kill again if given time. That is beyond dispute. But once executed, they are no longer a threat.

I honestly can’t imagine why anyone on this site would trust the DOJ in any matters of life and death.

At this point I would presume that every Federal prosecutor and every FBI agent involved in a criminal case is a lying sack of sh!t.

Why would anyone who understands what the FBI has tried to do to sitting president support federal executions?
