DEMS RIDE BIG MONEY TO FULL CONTROL OF VIRGINIA LEGISLATURE

Boosted by millions of dollars from outside groups, Virginia Democrats won control of both state legislative chambers on Tuesday, giving them full control of state government for the first time in 26 years.

All 140 seats in Virginia's General Assembly are up for grabs every two years, and Democrats entered the night hopeful they would enter 2020 with the state's status as a blue state further solidified. Democrats will emerge from Tuesday's election with full control of the legislature, with at least a two-seat majority in the state Senate and an even larger majority in the House of Delegates, which hasn’t been controlled by Democrats since 1999.

The election attracted record levels of outside spending, with more than $13 million pumped into the state by liberal groups and donors.

The state legislature was the last remaining stronghold for Republicans in Virginia, which has gradually shifted leftward over the past three decades.

Democrats won two consecutive gubernatorial elections in Virginia, carried the state in three consecutive presidential elections, and have held both the state's U.S. Senate seats since 2008. While Democrats won a slew of legislative seats in 2017, Republicans managed to maintain narrow two-seat majorities in both legislative chambers.

The last time Democrats controlled both the legislature and governor's mansion was 1993.

The legislative elections attracted the attention of top Democratic presidential nominees, and also former president Barack Obama, who announced endorsements in the state over the weekend. Hollywood celebrities such as Alec Baldwin also campaigned in the state, declaring victory in Virginia the "first step" to defeating President Donald Trump.

Likely more impactful on the outcome of the elections was the amount of money spent in support of Democrats.

Among the largest donors were liberal billionaires George Soros and Michael Bloomberg, who each spent more than a million dollars in support of Democratic candidates running throughout the state. In the race's final weeks, Soros gave Virginia's Planned Parenthood its largest contribution ever. Bloomberg's gun control advocacy group, Everytown for Gun Safety, spent more than $1.5 million in the state.

Virginia governor Ralph Northam, whose fundraising help was accepted by Democratic candidates despite his blackface scandal, will now enjoy allies in the legislature for the final two years of his tenure. It is unclear whether he will attempt to advance policy proposals that have been blocked by Republicans, such as his radical gun confiscation plan.

Only making the state likely to be under martial law when the anti deep state operation which is ramping up rather rapidly now goes into full effect. A Pyrrhic victory at best.

Northern Virginia is a cancer which has killed the state. You could smell defeat even at my local polling place. The Dems had a tented table with many workers passing out literature and intercepting all who approached the polling doors before they went in. The Republicans had two people, one who was the wife of the Republican candidate, and both of them were just standing on the sidewalk.

As a victim of communist control of Mexifornia I can empathize with the conservatives in Virginia. The Rats will run that state into the ground. Sad to see this happening. Actually it’s ironic that Richmond was the capital of the Confederate. Is this a sign of things to come?

The rats have a track record of running their states into the ground, Virginia is their next project.

Same experience in NOVA for us. And the local school board elected more Neo-marxists. Sad.

“Is this a sign of things to come?”

No. It’s a sign of things that ‘could’ come, if we don’t fight back. The demographic shifts that the left are counting on are not inevitable. They depend upon a few things. One, the unbridled immigration (legal and illegal) of people from third world countries into the US. Two, that those who do immigrate here don’t assimilate and become successful (those who do are more likely to embrace the American philosophy and reject socialism).

Trump MUST be reelected, AND we need the House back. The border wall, immigration reform that makes immigration again meritocracy-based, and more changes in the judiciary to prevent judiciary activism and legislation from the bench are absolutely essential.

The majority of the Virginia landmass is conservative, but, like CA, IL and other leftist states, the power is now all concentrated in the population centers.

We have acreage in Florida’s Marion County. We’ll probably move there in a few years, but in any case, we will be leaving Virginia.

Once Commiecrats get full control and become entrenched, they never give it up. Voting doesn’t work anymore. The state becomes a sh—hole. They’re really a cancer on our political system.

My part of Virginia has been murdered - the schools - EMS - by illegals and northerners who come for all the jobs then vote the way that killed their state.

It is a deep, deep tragedy.

In VA election postings thus far this doesn’t been covered, the turnout. What was it ? Usually in elections where Trump hasn’t campaigned turnout averages are lower

and that is why we need to disperse the Federal government throughout the US. There is nothing good about mob government.

Sorry to squash your optimism but it's not things to come or could come. It's a sign of things that are happening now and are here now. This will only get worse and more widespread.

Invaders will NEVER assimilate, no more than the Japanese or Germans would have assimilated had we lost world war two. We are being conquered by forces within and invaders from the outside.

"Voting doesn’t work anymore."

Conservatives that keep on with get the message out and judges need to understand this. At some point totalitarianism CANNOT BE VOTED OUT. That is the very nature to totalitarians. Wake up.

The Democrats hung their hat on “Republicans won’t let us do anything about....”. “Our children are dying and the Republicans won’t pass common-sense gun control”. Well, those days are over. Now you got it to do.

It’s rather telling that the Democrats have a governor with a racist past and a Lt Gov with 2 sexual assault accusations but they still won the state. I guess all that stuff doesn’t matter after all.
