After Years of Common Core, Betsy DeVos Announces ‘Devastating’ Results
Conservative Fighters ^

Years after Common Core made its debut in many state education systems, the disastrous long-term results of the program are finally being seen.

The students’ reading assessment paints a grim picture of educational readiness, with tested fourth and eighth graders failing to best the previous test’s results. This year’s results were only marginally better than those from 1992.

The mathematics scores show the most damning results — an upward trend until the year 2015, when the momentum seemed to grind to a halt. Although there were double-digit gains since the ’90s, fourth graders only managed to score a single point above their previous tests. Eighth graders failed to meet that low standard, sinking below their predecessors from two years before.

This failure in U.S. schools comes at a time when Chinese students appear to be blowing American children out of the water.

If we expect our future engineers, scientists, and mathematicians to compete in an increasingly globalized world, it’s clear that Common Core needs to be abandoned.

One size does not fit all. I fought against Common Core Curricula at the state and federal levels for years. Students in different parts of the country have different educational needs and skill development. To compare America's students achievement scores as a whole to that of another country's is ridiculous; apples to grapes. Article compares the students' scores in America to those of Chinese students. The population in America is much more diverse in race, family unit makeup, religion and work ethics among teachers. More local control of the curriculum is needed. Students in Op, Alabama have different needs than students in Chicago, IL.

Anybody want to bet that China bribed the politicians to destroy the education on the inside?

You think schools in this country are interested in traditional education?????? Their mission is thought control to the hard left, complete indoctrination on socialism, math and English be damned.

I bet that the students could recite the benefits of anal sex though or perhaps, instruct everyone on how to put condoms on bananas. Yeah....

In most of our major cities the kids who manage to graduate from high school can't even read their diplomas. But that was the plan all along at Rat Party Headquarters.

Here in Texas, we NEVER signed on to Common Core as Governor Perry was on to their game (can’t fool him). Instead, we implemented the same thing, just with a different name.

We have local control by bureaucrats who tell the tax paying parents to shut the hell up and open their wallets. The parents educated by the bureaucrats meekly comply and even champion their bs.

That ain’t changing ANY time soon.

There are virtually NO success stories that I am aware of that reverse this dynamic. Minor skirmishes might delay “masturbation hour” in a kindergarten here or there but a local takeover of the school board and a return to traditional education? Change my mind.

The only goal of education is that the student be a Democrat voter.

If we move aside Leftist pretensions of ‘scientifically enlightened” and neutrality (secular) we’ll discover that occult pantheism has been there all along. Within the worldview of occult pantheism, individual thought is simply not allowed as the energy field worshipped as reality does not think. Therefore, only gnostic mystics can know anything about the energy field via transcendental meditation, yoga, brain drugs, and other ways of shutting down and emptying the mind. The now deceased Robert Mueller was the father of Common Core. An occult pantheist, he grounded Common Core in Helena Blavatsky’s Luciferian Theosophy.

“Students in different parts of the country have different educational needs and skill development. To compare America’s students achievement scores as a whole to that of another country’s is ridiculous...”

Educational needs???

How so? The study of math and science is the same universally and is not malleable to the “needs” of those who study it. Education cannot be geared to assuaging the wounded mentality of students.

When the Chinese send a rocket into space, they use the same math and physics that American scientists use.

Who cares? We need government experts to teach our children. We are not capable of inculcating the proper nuances and gravitas necessary to maintain the swamp.

This is one campaign promise that Trump made that he has done absolutely NOTHING about.

DeVos is a failure.

This is YUGE news....and, it’s being reported by an outlet that I’m not even familiar with.

Also....Betsy DeVoss simply ‘announces’ this news??

This should be a presser, given advance notice, such as when Pompeo or Navarro are about to speak.

Maybe it was and I missed it??

The Department of Education needs to be shut down and the money returned to the States. Education should be overseen at the state level, where it would be more responsive to the people.

Agree.

This ‘announcement’ should’ve been a BIG deal, followed by an order that CommieCore was immediately being banned in ALL govt funded schools....with phase out beginning in Jan 2020....giving districts until the end of 2020 to have new curriculum orders, for next year.

When my kids were in grade school, the “exploration” math was being taught. No memorization.

My wife and another mom approached the teachers and said this was crazy. The kids need to know their “math facts” (i.e. flash cards). The two teachers and the principal agreed - although the school board could never know about it, as it was against the school district’s policy.

So my wife and the other mom started “math in a minute” - out in the hallway away from the teacher so they wouldn’t get in trouble.

Years later as we helped our kids with higher math I always told them “Can you imagine trying to do this without knowing what 8x9 is off the top of your head?”

When they first started being taught the new math I couldn’t wrap my head around it.

Say 8 plus 9.

Round up to 10+10 = 20.

But you only had 8, so it is 20-2 = 18.

Oh - and you only had 9. So that is 19-1 = 17.

The year before my wife got involved, my one daughter could get the answer, but would always get marked down because she didn’t show her work in the “new math” way.

We got called in after her second failed test.

“But all of her answers were correct!”

“No - because she didn’t answer them the proper way.”

“So you’re saying that 8+9 is not equal to 17?”

“That’s not the point.”

“Well, we think that IS the point. Go ahead and give her an “F” on her tests. But if she fails fourth(?) grade it will become an issue.”

It was the year after that my wife got involved in doing the math facts.

My wife was just relating another story to our adult daughter. They could only read books that were approved and that the school had the reading tests on. A series of books that my daughters loved were not on that list.

So my wife bought the books and the tests for the school library.

It was pretty sweet - my daughter gave mom a big hug thanking her. “I never knew that - you’re the best mom EVER!”

While the schools can be pretty crappy, parents can still have an influence. In hindsight I’m sort of glad that while the schools taught a lot of liberal crap, we could spend that evening together going over what they had learned and asking them questions and getting them to think harder about what they were being told.

My proudest moment was when my one daughter was talking facts against the global warming crap. The teacher brought us in and was concerned that she would be ridiculed for it.

I told him “Oh - she can handle her own.”

For the science fair she did a poster board that gave various facts against man-made global warming. That same teacher gave her an “A”. (I later learned that he wasn’t a liberal nut - but was truly concerned about my daughter where 99% of her peers were liberals).

For those angry about Trump’s inaction, I guess you guys can write to Senator Scheumer and ask him to work with Trump to pass legislation getting the feds out of education, but I’m not sure you’ll get too far. [and two years ago, I would have added Paul Ryan, who would have been just about as receptive as Scheumer]

Common Core officials need to be brought to justice for their destructive attack on American education that gave aid and comfort to the enemy.
