The Florida Senate on Wednesday voted to permanently oust suspended Broward Sheriff Scott Israel over his officers' response to the mass shooting that killed 17 at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in 2018.
The GOP-controlled state Senate voted 25-15 in favor of Israels permanent removal.
I hope the outcome provides some measure of relief to the Parkland families that have been doggedly pursuing accountability, Gov. Ron DeSantis, a Republican, said in a statement after the vote.

Great news!
It should never have been challenged. He’s crud
I wonder if he got to keep that Ferrari or Lamborghini or whatever that car was.
As if you ever need proof that there is a deep state at all levels of government that feels no obligation or responsibility to serve the public, this should be it. County sheriff demonstrates incompetence in his role in reacting to and in the aftermath of a school shooting and it took this long and this many steps in government to finally get him removed from his government job... And his staunchest supporters were state senators representing the area he so poorly served. Worse still, most of them will probably still be reelected.
That Lamborghini was a ‘loaner’ to the Sheriff’s office. I don’t know the quid pro quo on this, but there had to be something gained by the car dealer during the period of the ‘loan’.
Good. He can learn to code.
If the county in question has anything to do with an international port, there could be gains.
Anybody else see this low life’s townhall with Dana Loesch of the NRA?
And this guy is one of Florida’s finest?
Winning!
Here’s the best part: this pos will run for his old job next year against a Black Chief who has done a good job and is a registered Democrat. Have fun Broward rats!
So I’m not quite up to speed on the recent goings on with this particular sheriff.
So, did the county decide to vote this sheriff out, or was his removal at a higher level. If the county elected him out, no worries. But if he was removed by a higher office then that should be seen as a problem.
Not saying this guy isn’t incompetent or even just a human piece of $hit. But if a sheriff is there by the will of the people, and stands as the highest law enforcer in his county, who is to say that good sheriffs won’t/can’t be removed by a government because they don’t choose to go along (enforce gun control laws, arrest supposed political dissidents, etc)?
I think that was the issue. I think he was elected.
WHAT TOOK THEM SO LONG?
Thanks for the clarity I didn’t know that.
That won't work for now Private Citizen Israel anyway, he's an over 30 non-H1B visa holder ...
Wow... That's something that really needs to be looked into...
The Governor (DeSantis) removed him from office but a “Special Master” was appointed and he determined that although Israel had issues he was recommending reinstatement.
Florida law allows the Senate to determine Israel’s fate either way regardless of what the “Special Master” resolved which is what they just did.
He likely has several pensions to collect and needs no new job.
Like Monica Lewenski, some democrat company will give him a well paying job
