Over the last decade, global SUV ownership has doubled. In that time, the vehicles contributed more to the increase in global CO2 emissions than airlines, trucks, or heavy industry, according to an analysis by the International Energy Agency. Even if we add nearly 150 million electric cars to the road by 2040, if SUV ownership grows at its current rate, they’ll offset that entire emissions reduction. And while they’re spewing emissions, they also have a more tangible cost: They’re more likely than smaller cars to kill pedestrians, contributing to a steep rise in pedestrian deaths.
Now some environmental nonprofits argue that automakers shouldn’t be making the vehicles at all, and some politicians are beginning to argue that they should be banned—if not from everywhere, then at least from city streets. In September, when a 3-year-old, his grandmother, and two men in their twenties were killed by an SUV in Berlin (coincidentally, on the same day that the German newspaper Handelsblatt ran a feature article about the growth in SUVs with the headline “SUV insanity“), hundreds of people protested the next day. Many 5 and 6 passenger SUVs today use 2 liter turbocharged engines. Much more efficient than many, if not most, other engines on the road. They aren’t all big obscene V8 symbols of white supremacy. Women like them because they sit you up higher which provides superior visibility. Did “climate change activists” whine about mini vans? No. What’s the difference?

CO2 is not a pollutant and is necessary for life as we know it on this planet. Water vapor is the dominant greenhouse gas on this planet followed by methane. CO2 at 0.03% of the atmosphere plays an insignificant part of any warming of the atmosphere.

If these fascist nutters really cared about the environment, they would demand that “we” stop elevating millions of third-world denizens to first-world lifestyles.
Here’s what will happen; as with the previous Assault Weapon Ban, aka, The Ugly Gun Bill, work-arounds will be made to meet the letter of the law. Trucks and SUV‘s will still be necessary to do work, construction, farm, ranch, etc. So, 3/4 ton and heavier duty trucks and SUV’s will still be allowed. Thereby, out in Red State country good ole boys and girls will buy 3/4 ton versions. Screw the Greens Enviro Nazis....

People buy SUVs to have room for passengers and cargo, something the little tin cans don’t offer. A pedestrian hit by a bicycle or a Mack truck is likely to die so watch out for each other. As far as electric cars go, I can just see me driving one when it is 30 miles one way to our little town and 60 miles to a shopping center. Try that in winter with snow and ice on the roads and the (electric) car heater running full blast.
Because no one has ever been killed by a car??
I can understand a large SUV being pointless or problematic in old European cities with narrow streets, but the reality is most “SUV”’s are really just station wagons with higher roof lines and larger wheels.
