Report: Democrats Privately Urging Pelosi to Hold Impeachment Inquiry Vote
Breitbart ^ | 11 Oct 2019 | Edwin Mora

Some House Democrats are privately calling on Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to hold a vote to formalize the impeachment inquiry to undermine Republican criticism that the process is illegitimate, Politico reported this week. So far, Pelosi has refused to schedule a vote, arguing that the Constitution and House rules do not require the lawmakers to do so.

Meanwhile, the White House and its Republican congressional allies contend that such a vote is necessary to legitimize the inquiry per the recognized standards of previous impeachment efforts.

Politico reported:

Some Democratic lawmakers and aides have begun to say privately — and, to a lesser extent, publicly — that the House should just vote to formalize the inquiry, robbing the GOP of its main talking point.

Though a small but growing chorus of Democrats has started urging a vote simply to undercut this GOP talking point, others say that nothing will stop Trump and his supporters from claiming Democrats’ efforts are unfair and inconsistent with past impeachment procedures. They say the party shouldn’t take the White House’s bait, arguing that the president’s defenders will simply find other reasons to not comply with the inquiry.

The “private” debate on whether or not to hold a vote “is threatening to cleave Democrats’ unified front” in favor of impeachment, the news outlet added.

Rep. John Yarmuth (D-KY) publicly called for a vote, telling Politico,“If Nancy asked me, I would say sure, let’s have a vote. Everybody’s on record, so they’re not going to vote any differently. What’s the danger in having a vote to formalize it?”

House lawmakers voted to allow an investigation into whether to impeach President Bill Clinton and President Richard Nixon. Republicans have pointed to those votes as evidence that Democrats are acting in an unfair and illegitimate manner.

What if a subpoenaed person would show up at a public, neutral site and answer questions by both sides. If the Democrats do not show up, so be it.

The Dems think they can execute a coup and life will go on like before. Have they thought about the possibility of what trying to rule over a flaming wreckage of a country they have caused?

“She also knows what the true numbers are.”

Not quite. She knows only what she is being told the numbers are.

Voting for impeachment could well be signing your own political death warrant for some/many Democrats.

Even if Nancy was “told” she had the votes, would that hold up in an actual vote?

Some Democrats may be of the mind to “have the vote” only to see impeachment ENDED.

Impeachment is not popular. The only thing this Democrat congress has done with their newfound majority is attack Trump. They have ZERO accomplishments to claim. Maybe naming a few post offices.

The fight for the house will be about the “DO NOTHING” Democrats. They have squandered their victory.

It is the democrats, not the Republicans or Trump, that are really caught bad between a rock and a hard place.

Pelosi can stonewall and put her claws down and say (as she has):

“The Constitution does not specify HOW an impeachment goes forward, just that the House does it.”

What she means: “I, as Speaker, AM THE HOUSE. My way or the highway.”

The problem with this is the precedents of previous impeachments. She bucks them and an American Public that expects some balance of fairness are mortified. Sticking to her guns here probably means the GOP wins back the House.

She could, on the other hand, allow a vote, allow GOP subpoena powers and allow Trump to defend himself.

This then opens up a HUGE can of worms including discovery of things that make democrats look like the partisan witch hunters they are (Shitt, Wadler, etc.) THAT can then cause the GOP to win the House back also, as dems in Trump districts will be put on the spot and the voters there will replace them.

She could do some of that but not all. The Republicans and Pres. Trump will still object, and now we’re back to an issue of fairness to the American people. The democratic media, will, of course, be all on Nancy’s side no matter what she does, but in today’s day and age... Will this just force more people to abandon all hope of media non-biased reporting?

They really are on very shaky ground for the past three years of outrageous behavior regarding Pres. Trump.

How’s that phrase go?

Cut off your nose to spite your face.

The Constitution may not call for it.....BUT....we do have rules of law....that say you're entitled to Council....and that's an absolute. And Cross examination is also a rule of law.

So Schiff is dishing out a load of Schitt.

The law is what the Supreme Court says it is—so all Trump has to do is make sure very single procedural issue makes it all the way to the Supreme Court.

He should refuse to comply with any requests from the Kangaroo Court.

There will be an election in November, 2020, and Trump will be re-elected or he will not. The House of Representatives will remain Democrat or it will not.

The mass media will attack Trump—forever—regardless of facts or anything else.

What we have here is a lot of hand-waving, finger pointing and screaming.

Yes, you have a point. But Pelosi will argue that this is an investigation not a trial. Those rights will apply to the Senate trial if Trump is impeached.

That doesn’t make it fair. But this politics. Pelosi is playing her weak hand. In the end Trump her and the Dems (IMHO).

An interview with the cops isn't a trial either....but you have the right to council.

And all these names that get mentioned....they lawyer up. No trial, no charges....it's a "protection" that everyone is entitled to.

Pelosi and Trump are in cahoots yaknow. Pass it on. ;-)

Once the Dems realize this, Oh man.

She doesn’t really want to have to pick your own grapes nor does Trump want to have to mow the greens at his courses globally.

The danger with voting to formalize it is that the shriekers in the party are going to expect immediate further progress, and it's still thirteen months to the election. Pelosi has (maybe) the votes to impeach now but unless the media turn public opinion around, and they're doing their strident best, the thing will fail embarrassingly in the Senate and Trump will be re-elected just as Clinton was, with the added peril of the Dems losing the House in the bargain.

One could certainly make the argument that no inquiry vote is necessary; one could even make the argument that no inquiry is necessary and proceed directly to the impeachment vote. Which the Dems would if it stopped there, but it doesn't.

I have noticed that PDJT, (and the Republicans now that they found their gonads), are using the Dem’s favorite pressure campaign tactics. Make the point that something needs investigating, make a demand that it/they must be investigated. Ask “what do they have to fear if they are telling the truth”? Make it clear that they are acting in secrecy and refusing to let the public know what is happening.

Now PDJT has forced the unfairness of the Dem’s tactics on impeachment into the dialog of the news cycle, (against their will), and the public is putting pressure on the congress to hold the vote and provide fairness and transparency into the hearings.

PDJT has out maneuvered the Dems. They can’t justify the way they are holding the inquiry but know that the public will find their “articles of impeachment” to be minor political disagreements and not an impeachable offense. The public pressure for fairness and transparency in the process will only increase.
