Don't assume the Senate would *never* remove Donald Trump
CNN ^ | Oct. 1, 2019 | Chris Cillizza

With the House now headed down a path that virtually guarantees President Donald Trump will be impeached, conventional wisdom has settled on the idea that the Republican-led Senate will never, ever remove him from office.

Which, I get! If you were a betting person -- which I am not! -- the strong likelihood is that the Senate acquits Trump. Because, well, math. There are 53 Republicans in the chamber currently and 47 Democrats and independents who caucus with Democrats. In order to remove Trump from office, 67 senators would have to vote to do so -- meaning you would need every Democrat and a 20-person Republican revolt.

Which is not likely!

NEED PHONE CALLS TO MC CONNELL’S OFFICE HOURLY!

202-224-2541 and there’s always his website for email contact. His mailbox is full but keep calling and sending emails. Articles of Impeachment DO NOT HAVE TO - ARE NOT REQUIRED to be brought up in the Senate. When he says he has no choice, he’s lying!!! If he EVER knew anything about the law or the Constitution, he’s long forgotten it.

Why do we assume 535 congressional members aren’t as likely to suffer from dementia as much as most of us can point to in family and friends. I don’t get it. Do people assume they are immune and have all their faculties? We only need to look and listen to determine NO - they do not!

“”The house isn’t ever going to vote for impeachment,””

You’re dreaming - they would work overtime to vote for it. They might even give up some recess time. Nothing will stop them!

Democrat dream -

House impeaches the President
Senate removes him from office
Pence becomes President
Pence resigns leaving both offices vacant
Speaker of the House Pelosi becomes the first Woman President

...Hillary puts a hit out on Pelosi

I was saying pretty much the same thing the other day. That’s when I was forgetting it took 67 votes in the Senate to convict.

Seriously can’t see 67 votes to impeach Trump, but if it happened it would sure prove how deep and broad the swamp was.

In Washington, D. C., Trump is our only hope.

McConnell and the Republicans in the Senate better not join the Left.

It will end the Republican Party.

Wake me up on this when they find a crime. Otherwise any impeachment talk is just another Dem TDS fantasy.

They will most certainly eventually find a crime. If they keep looking, and searching they will find some kind of wrong doing.

We find crimes (Comey, Hillary, etc. that the left commits, but NEVER is it prosecuted. Hillary lectures us on morality and calls for impeachment while she should have been charged. The crimes of the Obama administration never were charged.

The democrats know if they keep investigating and prevaricating, they will eventually find something.

Well, when the very first sentence of an opinion piece is a lie, what can you expect of the rest of it?

“Hillary puts a hit out on Pelosi””

I like the ending but not the process to get there.

You would assume not since they didn’t seem very well protected against the fascists running through the halls during the Kavanaugh hearings...

This is just more delusional wishful thinking by people who can’t forgive Trump for allowing Hillary to be such a terrible candidate. It always starts with some presumption that their mindset is the overwhelming popular opinion “surely we all agree that...” to make it seem like Trump is illegitimately ruling solely through trickery, and if only the silent majority of anti-trump senators would be brave, they could take the country back.

“I bet for a large sum of money, the Clintons would sell those files!”

I’ll tell you what - they’ve kept her fat a$$ out of jail for a long time. Can you imagine if Trump had been caught using a secret server like she has.

Them’s some good files!

I assume that the Senate will vote to convict.

The GOP is a bunch of loser master craftsmen.

“They will most certainly eventually find a crime.”

Meh. They been trying their dangdest for 3 years and come up with nada. So I wouldn’t sweat it.
Being upset that Trump did something or other is only evidence that person has TDS and nothing more.

The Senate better stay sane and NOT vote to impeach.

No senator can vote to impeach. The only thing they can vote to do is acquit or convict i.e. continue or remove.

It says right here that every Republican senator would rather keep doing what he is doing rather than have to hunt up a real job. About the time the trial started, the deluge of contact they would experience would make them want this trail to last about long enough for a voice vote.

I think the best thing now to keep the republicans in line would be a credible belief that if impeached and removed, president Trump would form a MAGA party. Normally I would be against a third party, but if the republicans stab us in the back one more time, I think Trump could accomplish it.

> Well, if you were a betting man, then you would realize that not a single President has ever been successfully impeached since the country’s founding. <

Right. But let’s take a closer look. Neither Andrew Johnson nor Bill Clinton did anything that threatened the structure of the Republic. So neither man should have been impeached in the first place, IMHO. (And yes, I know that Bill Clinton behaved like a pig, and then lied about it.)

On the other hand, Nixon was accused of things that really threatened the structure of the Republic. And he resigned because he knew he would have been impeached, and then convicted. GOP senator Hugh Scott told him as much.

Trump finds himself in the same position as was Nixon, accused of doing things that threaten the Republic. The only difference is that Nixon probably was guilty. Trump is not guilty. But the Democrats don’t care about that.

Well, in the first place— one reason is, it is known (Rush talked about this, and sourced the story properly- can’t recall the source) that Mittens met with.... Pelosi and assured her of a certain block of repub votes in the Senate should impeachment be tried by the Senate.
Here: https://news.iheart.com/featured/rush-limbaugh/content/2019-09-25-pn-rush-limbaugh-mitt-romney-cozies-up-to-pelosi-on-impeachment/

And then there is this, mittens former nat security advisor a cee aie ehhhh former spook, Joe Black- sat on or sits on the BOD of the Burisma (at the same time as Hunter Biden). That and the Panama papers reveal on the income funneled to mittens through Black from Burisma to... him or his campaign:
Here: https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2019/09/26/former-mitt-romney-adviser-sits-on-burisma-board-of-directors/

The dirt on romney— world moron tablenapkin choir-boy- is quite thick, not as thick as obamaumao’s commie past/present and muzzie beliefs-— but seriously “i’m above everyone else” Panama Papers....thiiiiick.

Yup, exactly - the pretend impeachments to mollify the looney base are meaningless. No crime, no impeachment.
