North Korean leader Kim Jong Un invited U.S. President Donald Trump to visit Pyongyang in a letter sent in August, a South Korean newspaper reported on Monday, citing diplomatic sources.
The letter, the second Trump received from Kim last month amid stalled denuclearization talks between the two countries, pre-dated North Korea's latest launch of short-range projectiles a week ago.
In the second letter, which was passed to Trump in the third week of August, Kim spoke of his willingness to meet Trump for another summit, one source reportedly told the Joongang Ilbo newspaper.
The White House, the U.S. State Department and the North Korean mission to the United Nations all did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Trump and Kim have met three times since June last year to discuss ways to resolve a crisis over North Korea's missile and nuclear programs, but substantive progress has been scant.

Kim just wants to shoot his mouth off...
I fire a few missiles and the U.S. President comes to me , see how powerful I am ,is what the Young Un will say to his slaves
This NK letter means that once again the Deep State will flood the news with “NK did EVIL X” stories next.
I don’t think Trump will go again unless something substantial is agreed upon in advance.
Too dangerous.
“Too dangerous.”
...for cowards...
Trump might as well continue the summits. No real downside.
Trump needs to focus on whatever gets him reelected.
The media reported this morning that President Trump had dinner the other night with Otto Warmbier’s parents.
Don’t know if it’s related to these other reports or not.
Bolton gone so better chances this time.
Maybe. That certainly occurred to me. It would definitely be better to have him come to the US instead. Still, they shouldn’t meet again without a deal negotiated in advance.
Remember Madeline....She got to dance with Kim’s daddy...while they were building nuke weapons.
Theres one good reason for him to go: The U.S. security measures required for such a visit would be so extensive that theyd basically amount to a short-term military occupation. If North Korea is OK with that then they really are being very agreeable in a way I never would have expected.
I’m less worried about an attack from without than one from within.
Kim uses these events for domestic consumption, convincing his people he is “succeeding” where neither his father or grandfather did - meeting with a U.S. president. That is 100% of their value to Kim - protecting public acceptance of his regime.
“Bolton gone so better chances this time.”
That can only mean “better chances” if it means Trump will make compromises in Kim’s favor that Bolton would not. If so they could be compromises that are also NOT in South Korea’s favor.
The U.S. cannot on its own bargain away South Korea’s security for promises. The ONLY thing North Korea can offer that can change U.S. positions much is DESTRUCTION of its nuclear weapons programs, lock, stock and barrel. Beyond that, talk is cheap and not worth much.
