California’s Newsom signs bill allowing citizens to refuse to help a police officer

California Gov. Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, on Tuesday signed a bill that no longer requires any "able-bodied person 18 years of age or older" in the state to help an officer who requests assistance during an arrest.

The Sacramento Bee reported that the old law, the California Posse Comitatus Act of 1872, was common in the country’s early days, but Sen. Bob Hertzberg, a Los Angeles Democrat who sponsored the bill, called the old law a “vestige of a bygone era." The law was employed to help catch runaway slaves, the report said.

“Narrative is more important than facts.”

Isn’t that exactly what Biden said when questioned about that phony story he told about pinning the medal on the soldier.

He got 7 actual facts wrong in his story about the event, but he said the facts didn’t matter.

The left hates both cops and the military all the while they are saying cops and military are the only ones that should be armed.

They are doing their best to divide the country that likely could end in a civil war. They are even using racism and slavery as an issue similar to CW1.

My point is, if these geniuses get CWII going, then they have no assurance the cops or military will be on their side. These hypocrites have no assurance their own armed guards will be on their side.

If police are not legally obligated to render aid and assistance while on the job in uniform they can kiss my ass if they think any mandatory help is coming from me.

“Sheeeeyit. What a smokescreen. This law was was passed so Newsom FredocRATS in the CA legislature could tack on and funnel tens of millions of dollars in unrelated spending to themselves and their cronies.”

Totally nailed it!

The closest thing California has ever had to a slave is an exploited illegal alien.

They s/b forced to show one historical example of when this law was used to help catch a fugitive slave in California.

If we had a functioning media this would happen, instead we just have left wing propaganda media.

Runaway slaves in California? Really?

The Left hates the police, unless it’s their orders that cause the police to oppress their political enemies.

Wasn’t the Seinfeld Gang
thrown in prison for failing to act when a crime was taking place? It was the
End of the series I believe.

The old law made the state liable for any injuries, to anyone, resulting from citizens obeying that law. It was a pretty silly law after modern tort law evolved.

Yes. The Faux headline is also distorted. The law wasn't 'allow' it forced you to comply to the state. Big difference. Force you to help gun owners, sure why not. Force you to arrest abortion protesters, sure.
