An off-duty Indiana police officer is being praised for his "quick thinking and heroic actions" after he stopped a shooter inside a Walmart while out shopping with his family.
The officer, a member of the East Chicago Police Department, was shopping at a Walmart in Hobart with his wife and kids on Sunday when a shooter inside began firing, according to police.

I don’t know, but if they’re discontinuing ammo sales I no longer have a reason to go there.
The leftest hate Walmart.
Leftists associate Walmart with rednecks/hicks/conservatives/etc. Also, Walmart is often the largest soft target in an area.
They also don’t want customers to come in with CCP weapons which is stupid since it was outsiders with them who killed two mass shooters at Walmart sites.
Krogers is doing the same thing. Don’t go there and won’t. Will cut down Walmart items to almost nothing. I shop at Target a lot.
My feeling is the odd phrasing of the announcement (focused on barrel length) points to their intention to take pistol and intermediate cartridge ammo off the shelves because those types of ammunition are typically used in “assault rifles” which, among their many detestable features, tend to have shorter barrels than traditional hunting rifles and shotguns.
Was in the local Wal-Mart this evening and swung by the Sporting Goods Department to see if the new sales policy had come into effect. There was still plenty of pistol caliber ammunition in the locked case. There also was both 5.56mm and .223 as well but not in really large amounts. (Forgot to check for 7.62 x 39mm.) Guess it will take some time to implement the announcement since ammo is a controlled item kept under lock and key no matter where it is.
Won’t make a bit of difference when the next deranged criminal intent on murder shows up at his local Wal-Mart because that’s where a lot of people are. Then, the only thing that will matter is if and when a good guy with a gun shows up to deal with him. And THEN it will matter that all those good guy (and gal) CCW holders’ pistols are now locked in their cars in the parking lot instead of being on their person. This, of course, because of the other Wal-Mart announcement recently asking that the weapons not be brought into their stores even when concealed.
Flavor of the month. Nut case see, nut case do.
In Washington State, a “No Guns” sign in a store means that if they see you with a gun they can ask you to leave. If you refuse to leave, then they can call the police and have you arrested for trespassing. Bars, schools and courthouses are off-limits by law.
Trump supporters.
Three places I dont carry. 1: to bed, it lays on the nightstand near my head. 2: in the shower. 3: in the courthouse. So no carry zones are not on my go zone list. Gun free zones get people killed. Im sure now with these new rules the Walmart shooter would have hit a Sears or K Mart. Oh wait Sears and K Mart are going tits up.
Add Walgreens to that list.
Just to pick the obvious nit, does “see you with a gun” include the right to be challenged when they see a suspicious bulge in your clothing? Or does some portion of the pistol actually have to be clearly visible to begin with?
Yeesh. I probably can guess the answer already. I did my undergraduate degree at UW in the 70s. The virtue signaling in Seattle and the aggressiveness with which they did it even then was sickening. I can’t even imagine how bad it is now.
Of course, based on the recent articles about the state of the city due to the homeless problem, I probably wouldn’t want to go there now anyway.
But the summers were fantastic! And I met my present wife there, so it wasn’t all bad.
I try to dress to cover completely my carry choice. Its a good point though. If they see a bulge near your waist will they ask about it? My phone is in a belt carrier on my right side and is more pronounced than my Carry gun. Im a left hand person. I have changed attire to accommodate an IWB holster, larger shirts untucked, suspenders to compensate for the weight of the weapon and extra clip of a Walther PPS In winter concealment is easier, I move up to a stagger stack pistol HK P30SK or 1911 Commander in a shoulder rig. I want all the good guy/gals carrying but I dont need to know who they all are. All good guys armed in a restaurant to me means safety from dumbazzses.
Why is everything freaking out about this?
If the CEO of Walmart, who says he is a gun owner yet doesn’t know basic terminology, wants to ban “Open Carry” in Walmart stores, so what? Open Carry is pretty dumb anyway. “But it’s MY RIGHT”. Put a shirt over it and you’re fine.
You know what? It is your right. It’s your right to carry and own firearms. But it’s Walmart’s decision to dictate if they want you to have a gun on you, in its stores and how they want you to carry it. It’s as a “privately owned and operated business” that can make their own rules and there isn’t sh*t you can say about it. You don’t like it, you have two options. Put a shirt over your pistol or don’t shop there.
If they want to stop selling ammo for your AR or AK, so what? Sure it’s convenient to go by there, in an emergency, but ammo prices are cheaper on line and many sites offer free shipping to your door.
If this CEO and the BOD are ok with these policies, that’s on them. If it starts to hurt the company’s bottom line, it’s on them.
Personally, the only ammo I buy from Walmart is the bucket of .22LR and some 12 gauge.
“If they want to stop selling ammo for your AR or AK, so what? Sure its convenient to go by there, in an emergency, but ammo prices are cheaper on line and many sites offer free shipping to your door.”
Yes but paying with cash avoids there being a record of the transaction that can be traced by gun grabbers.
?????
The Walmarts I go to don’t have any no-carry signs and nobody blinks if my weapon is visible...the uber-leftist Target stores have signs and they would melt down if someone had a weapon....
“I dont know, but if theyre discontinuing ammo sales I no longer have a reason to go there.”
True dat...Wal-Mart has chosen the side of cowardice.
Also...the wife and I paid a nighttime visit to our closest Wal-Mart recently. She didn’t say a word, but I could tell she was discomforted by the 3rd world nature of the place. And, she’s about the most un-situationally aware person I know. Probably the worst I’d seen there (she hadn’t been there in ages).
Not sure I can argue that, but if you really wanted to go “dark”, get some reloading equipment and you become your own bullet manufacturer. Other than .22, you can make everything at home and you can get going for not much money.
I hope you don’t hurt your rotator cuff patting your self on the back for shopping at Target
