Catestrophic Hurricane Dorian was assigned Category 5 status by the NHC Sunday, September 1 at 0800. Since then Hurricane Dorian reached maximum sustained winds of 185 MPH, with gusts exceeding 220 MPH, and storm surge 18-23 feet above normal tide levels as it made landfall across Great Abaco Island in the Bahamas. Dorian became the strongest hurricane in modern records for the Northwestern Bahamas.
Dorian has wrought extreme wind and flood damage to Abacos and Grand Bahama Island as it crawled slowly across the Northern Bahamas.
All interests along the Atlantic coast should continue monitoring conditions and forecasts as powerful Hurricane Dorian moves very close to the US coastline. Evacuation orders have been issued for many Atlantic coastal communities in the Southeast US. Evacuations include multiple hospitals and nursing homes along the coast with anticipated dangerous storm surge and battering waves.
Wind speed is expected to weaken and fluctuate in the coming days as the storm moves northward.

Fortunately, I have a little portable AC unit in my office. It couldn’t handle cooling two adults, two dogs and two cats. 85ºF was the best it could accomplish when temps were in the 90s. So the AC guy loaned us another portable unit while we waited for delivery of the new unit. Things improved when my office only had to cool two cats and me.
I thought sort of the same thing. I was thinking it was bouncing off the coast...
Fox 35 just said now the eye of the storm is going to be 90-100 miles from the coastline of Florida and the storm is turning north in a curve!
It sounds like a great business idea.
Thanks for telling us about your wonderful solution to the darkness once the plywood is added. I will pass this on to my family!
Radar loops show it not budging. It did wobble north a little bit ago. But you can still see that Grand Bahama Island in the eye.
I saw that pic earlier. Very nice, quite creative... If they only let light pass through. ;)
I think we got everything prepping done today. The hard part was praying unceasingly this storm would turn out to sea... looks like the effort has had some effect!
I am going to have to listen to WFTV at 11:00. Fox 35 is saying the coast will not get hurricane force winds now but rather tropical force winds and all the models are converging west.
Correction: Converging east.
Its 105 miles east of West Palm Beach. Hurricane force winds extend out 45 miles. It is already 60 mile from the Florida coast.
Go for it! Or sell them as kits, I suppose. I am too old now; got tired just putting up two of them (already fabricated and used previously.) BUT, still easy to install! sigh
I hope it works as well for you as it has for me... AND the materials are a whole lot easier to store than plywood. I just have a shallow shelf hung from the rafters in my shed. Easy peasy!
Glad you completed your storm prep! There is remarkably rough surf at Jupiter Beach tonight.

It doesn’t exist because it’s not needed, and likely would be dangerous if it were implemented. People would go ‘oh, it’s only a Cat 5, man, I’d be out of here if it was a Cat 6... Honestly, if he had cut off his scale at 4, more lives would be saved because people would take warnings more seriously.
WFTV has it 60 miles off the coast as a 130 mph CAT 3 and hurricane warnings ar still up for the coastal areas. Also confirmed the storm is stationary. So the Fox 35 news was quite strange.
