Amazon Has Ceded Control of Its Site. The Result: Thousands of Banned, Unsafe or Mislabeled Products
The Wall Street Journal ^ | Aug 23, 2019 | Alexandra Berzon, Shane Shifflett, Justin Scheck

Many of the millions of people who shop on Amazon.com see it as if it were an American big-box store, a retailer with goods deemed safe enough for customers.

In practice, Amazon has increasingly evolved like a flea market. It exercises limited oversight over items listed by millions of third-party sellers, many of them anonymous, many in China, some offering scant information.

Also from the article:

The Journal identified at least 157 items for sale that Amazon had said it banned, including sleeping mats the Food and Drug Administration warns can suffocate infants. The Journal commissioned tests of 10 children’s products it bought on Amazon, many promoted as “Amazon’s Choice.” Four failed tests based on federal safety standards, according to the testing company, including one with lead levels that exceeded federal limits.

When our government starts telling us the TRUTH about how dangerous carbohydrates are for many (possibly most) people, I’ll start believing them when it comes to other products. But not until then.

Lots of products available on Amazon from 3rd party sellers of such well known companies as Sorny Electronics, Apfel Computer, Mikrosoft and Matell Toys.

I bought some plant bulbs from what look like a US company, but they came about a week later from China. I wonder if this stuff is inspected by customs. I thought that was a big no-no.

But don’t try to buy a Confederate flag at Amazon.

Like you, I don’t trust the government much. But if the FDA says a certain sleeping mat can suffocate infants, I think it would be wise to take that statement into consideration when buying a sleeping mat.

I looked for a heat press (to apply vinyl to clothing and other surfaces) and could not find a single one not made in China. The customer reviews indicated a lot of quality control issues with the presses. I ended up buying a Cricut press—which was also made in China. But I figure it would be easier to return a defective product to Cricut than to some Chinese company.

"... the TRUTH about how dangerous carbohydrates are for many (possibly most) people..."

Are you my wife? This sounds exactly what she says all day long.

I am more concerned with them having banned books, systematic viewpoint discrimination. They’ve removed books on conversion therapy for homosexuals and books by ex-gays.

That ban was on the grounds that it was harmful, that you can’t change.

Yet the transgenders are saying “If you just like us, get used to us, you’ll date/have sex with us”. That’s an admission that with exposure and emotional pressure, you CAN change.

“Are you my wife? This sounds exactly what she says all day long.”

Obviously you married a very WELL INFORMED person!

The reason you don’t hear the truth about carbs elsewhere is because of who’s ox gets gored if it should ever become mainstream (but it will, and it is slowly moving that way). Here are some ox’s, if people stop (or nearly stop) eating carbs.

1) Vegetarians (since the carbs will be replaced by meat - really no other choice)
2) Global Warming Extremists - because lots more animals will be need and according to AOC, they will fart.
3) Animal Rights Extremists - obviously more animals being farmed and slaughtered
4) Big Pharma - pretty much the end of Insulin sales (except for Type 1 diabetics), and huge reduction in other diabetes-related drugs
5) Meat Replacement Food Industry - Currently investing many billions to ‘replace’ eggs and other healthy foods with God knows what...but all unhealthy.

The fact that the above is fighting tooth and nail to maintain a constantly-worsening obese and diabetic society is why she may seem a bit off her rocker, but what she believes is now supported by actual studies and the detailed mechanisms are now being understood (the biggest one being that fat, including bacon, from meat DOES NOT become human body fat, at all - all human body fat comes from carbs)...while the other side is simply protecting their financial interests and pushing their ‘social change’ agenda.

[p.s., I’ll try not to hijack this thread anymore!]

Another poster with an eating disorder chiming in. There is nothing inherently wrong with carbohydrates. Would love if there was a way meet up in a gym and find out the difference in my balanced diet and your carb limited one.

On the other hand, if it makes you happy, go for it.

“But if the FDA says a certain sleeping mat can suffocate infants, I think it would be wise to take that statement into consideration when buying a sleeping mat.”

That’s reasonable...I just can’t get off this carb stuff. And they actually did do some things right - cars DEFINITELY needed seat belts, although I have yet to see any analysis saying that air bags were a good idea. And auto emissions are much, much, cleaner than they had been - although, obviously, electric cars are a joke.

Sorry...This is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever read.

“he biggest one being that fat, including bacon, from meat DOES NOT become human body fat, at all - all human body fat comes from carbs”

First, I love meat - almost never go without it in a meal. However, if you eat more calories than you burn with any food macro, your body will make fat with the excess. There are simple biochemical pathways in the body that ensure this.

Only carbs make people fat is an out and out falsehood. Eating too much is what makes people fat.

“Another poster with an eating disorder chiming in. There is nothing inherently wrong with carbohydrates. Would love if there was a way meet up in a gym...”

Well, I guess the fact that ‘eating disorders’ EXPLODED once people cut way back on their meat consumption around 1980 (thanks to our government) and replaced them with carbs...is just a ‘coincidence’ to you.

And considering the numbers of overweight/obese/diabetic people in the country, virtually all of who got there by eating carbs, people like youself are close to being in the minority (you certainly would be where I work)...perhaps it’s you guys with the eating disorder, since ‘normal’ people (i.e., the majority of people) are now overweight, if not in worse shape.

For others, have a look at this video:

I guess you have your set of facts, and I have mine. Mine is that without carbs, you will not get fat. If you eat a lot without carbs, you may not lose weight, but you will not get fat.

First, I 100% agree that the “fat free” promotion in the late 80s, and early 90’s caused a huge increase in weight problems in this country. However, it was mainly because people started eating a ton of highly caloric sugary “fat free” products, thinking they could do it without worry.

Fats are very good for you, but so are proteins and carbohydrates. Extreme imbalances of any of these are not good for you long term.

So we probably agree to some extent on the value of fats, etc., but disagree on the carb side.

All based on legumes and relying on (expensive/land intensive/water intensive) combinations of legumes, vegetables and grains to create complete proteins.

And they cost more in terms of POS price.

I wish there was an edit feature. One more point on all the “fat free” crap that took place in the 80’s and 90’s. It used to drive me crazy when my mother and others loaded up on Snackwells “fat free” cookies. I kept trying to explain how all those excess calories will be sent to fat synthesis pathways in the body.
