I agree, there's something the mother is holding back.......I've seen plenty of special needs children ‘survive’ all the stimulation a restaurant brings with it. But a four year old without special needs can be a handful and then some. If either are acting up then just step out the door with them until they settle down.

....further the mother wouldn't accept Outbacks apology and says she doesn't know what to do. Well if she doesn't know how to handle this situation then she needs to press pause and start all over again in another restaurant.

Apples and oranges. Eating with his feet vs. being restrained and force-fed. Trying his best to do for himself vs. having “NO idea where he was”.

Well at least the Ptomaine au Gratin will keep you out of restaurants for a few days letting the other patrons get what they paid for and not screwing the restaurateur with bad PR or loss of other patrons.

Especially women who name their offspring after wines, beers, or cocktails. Killian, Margaux, Daquiri, or whatever the hell they were drinking when conception occurred.

Who goes to Outback for a quiet meal? It’s always been loud when I go.

Please, you judgmental people who don’t have a child with special needs
People with normal kids have opinions too.

At the beginning, when the first one with special needs was little

You should have controlled the kid or kept him home.

I had another child with special needs.

I’m seeing a trend.

you have never attempted to live a normal family life with kids with special needs.

Most people have normal kids.

You must be miserable, if your behavior in regular society is anything like your crass behavior here on FR. You should be ashamed of yourself, but I’m guessing that that emotion is not in your repertoire.

Upon entering the restaurant, you should straightaway request a table away from noisy children or busy sections like the kitchen doors. You're the customer, and accommodating your request shouldn't be hard if the restaurant isn't packed. Tipping a touch more than usual isn't unreasonable for a peaceful dining experience.

Seriously, do it. Many of these waitstaffers are likely doing it on purpose without thinking too hard on it. They may see seniors as light tippers, so they routinely save the best seats for parties they see as more likely to tip heavily after a pleasant experience away from the aforementioned nuisances and distractions. You and your wife don't have to silently suffer this kind of casual discrimination. Be polite, but be firm! ^_^

My wife and I, being senior citizens and no children at home, eat out fairly regularly.

But when we do, it seems the hostesses always seat us in teh ‘family sections’ with all the screaming children or if not here, they seat us next to the kitchen doors with constant going out and coming in.

As much as I have sympathy for disabled children, I strongly suspect that this kid wasn't just "noisy" but LOUD. As someone already said here, "special needs" ain't a rootkit to the normal expectation of courtesy to other diners.

I’d have to hear a recording before I’d just issue a blank check here. Many parents simply don’t “hear” their own kids, much less train them or discipline them. Even special kids can be trained; if they are untrainable, they probably don’t belong in a sit-down restaurant.

These days people proudly let their kids disrupt with noise in restaurants, in church, in waiting rooms, on airplanes, in trains, in buses, in stores... and think it’s adorable. Many parents seem oblivious, and others are self-righteously indignant, no matter how loud or sustained their kid’s vocalizations are.

There’s this one place we go that every time we go we seem to get the same seats.

I told the hostess that we should have our name engraved on the table...................

‘I once paid big bucks to see a Shakespeare play. I missed most of the dialogue due to the outbursts of a poor child with Tourette’s.’

interesting... same think kind of happened to me; went to see MacBeth, and I couldn’t hear a thing because of all the sound and fury...
