At least nine people are dead and more than a dozen wounded after someone opened fire in downtown Dayton, Ohio, according to police.
In addition, the suspected shooter was shot and killed by responding officers. Police said they are only aware of one shooter.
Authorities responded quickly to the shooting, first reported at 1 a.m., and said police are regularly present in the crowded district popular with tourists and locals.
Miami Valley Hospital spokesperson Terrea Little told ABC News that they have received 16 victims from the shooting in the Oregon District. She did not provide further information on their injuries. Dayton police confirmed that "at least" 16 people were injured in area hospitals.

"This is a large scene and investigation. Thank you for your patience," Dayton police added in a subsequent tweet.
Two bars in the Oregon District -- Hole in the Wall and Ned Peppers -- wrote on Instagram that their staff was safe.
Kettering Health Network, which operates eight hospitals in the Dayton and Cincinnati areas, said it was treating patients, but offered no specifics.

Maybe they wanted to be shielded from the noise and wanted to concentrate. We may never know. It is true they are easily led, that I agree with but unfortunately the path they are going down is one with no rational end for them or for the society if they were to be successful.

It was school assignment. Field work. Will get good grades for ear muffs, eye protection, handling the weapon. Not a gamer cause you never wear ear muffs in virtual land.

You would think that hearing people shooting back would be priority number one.
In Texas one needs to be concerned with getting shot in that situation. So situational awareness should have over ruled noise cancellation.
Many moons ago I lived in Bellbrook when it had only 1 traffic light. My home was a custom ranch adjacent to Sugarcreek Reserve - very quiet & peaceful.
It’s a massive traffic jam now, relatively speaking.
Public execution sounds good. My vote would be for hanging in the town square. Though I would recommend keeping the rope tight, so that when the platform dropped away their neck did not break - slow strangulation.

Ear and eye protection are 100% proof that NRA training is behind this.
Maybe he/they were receiving direction in their ear protection.
That is the second thought/idea that went through my old mind.
My first thought was Gibb’s Rule #39, there are no coincidences at this level.
