Mark Meadows bypasses FBI to appeal for release of info linked to FISA abuse report

Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., is getting impatient with the FBI in his effort to root out misconduct in the early stages of the Trump-Russia investigation and went over Director Christopher Wray's head to try and move things along.

In the balance, the GOP investigator said in a letter to top Justice Department officials last week, is the American public's ability to fully understand DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz's upcoming report on alleged surveillance abuses.

In the letter addressed to Attorney General William Barr and Horowitz, Meadows pushed for the unredacted release of five pages related to British ex-spy Christopher Steele, who compiled an unverified dossier on President Trump's ties to Russia that was used by the bureau to obtain the authority to spy on a member of his campaign, Carter Page.

Meadows cited a Freedom of Information Act legal battle over the disclosure of documents from Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Kathleen Kavalec that followed her meeting with Steele on Oct. 11, 2016, 10 days before the first Page warrant application was submitted. Notes taken from that meeting by Kavalec, obtained and released by conservative group Citizens United through open-records litigation, cast doubt on Steele's reliability. Kavalec wrote that during that meeting Steele admitted he was encouraged by his client, which was the Hillary Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee, to get his research out before the November 2016 election, signaling a possible political motivation. Kavalec's notes also show she believed some of Steele's allegations were false.

Not much else we can do at the moment. I just hope we eventually see some action and not just campaign sound-bites. Too often the politicians, and the DOJ/FBI would rather not rock the boat too much and prefer to sweep this all under the rug to be quickly forgotten. That we are already into the 2020 election cycle makes that so much more likely. I blame Sessions and all of the Obama holdovers.

I’m just gonna say it, Dave Clark and that Colonel Congressman whatwashis Name.... (tapping fingers, banging head) he was that one term congressman, from the South! A familiar face to FOX, back in the Sara Palin days..... Anyway, both so sober faced I fully expected they might go off at any moment.

Staunch conservatives, no nonsense. I dunno, though. No sense of humor, for sure.

President Trump has decades of practice playing the long game.

Do not believe his imbecile detractors who claim that he is low on impulse control.

I don't think it is Sessions fault. I have read that the FISA warrants are actually supposed to be released today.

Trump gave Barr the authority because Wray and Coats were refusing to OK declassification of docs. So Barr is bypassing those two and as you know, Coats is no longer the DNI.

It is frustrating, but these things take time to go through the process. From what I have read, it is more complicated than just stamping "Declassified" on the docs - it needs to go through a number of people for review.

Trump is showing enormous amounts of patience, though. He doesn't have much choice, I don't think.

But it is important for these docs to be released sooner than later. The whole treasonous scandal is incredibly complicated, it will take a long time for the general public to grasp what happened and how. Even though I have heard much of it dozens of times, I could not explain the whole thing if I had to. I can explain bits and pieces.

The George Papadopoulos portion of the scandal is worthy of a movie. It's jaw dropping.

President Trump, your FBI Director is a bad man.

The FBI is corrupt, and it doesn’t have the trust of Americans anymore.

Yes, that includes the boots on the ground too.

Should just change the designation from F.B.I. to A.S.S..

American Schutz Staffel.

Yeah, I know it’s supposed to be one word, but...

I’ve thought the same thing many times. There are several people in my life who are good, intelligent people with strong conservative values, even if they don’t realize the extent of their conservatism. For various reasons, they know very, very little about this staggeringly convoluted mess.

I’ve contemplated trying to have a talk with some of them, because I know that they would be horrified and outraged by what has taken place. But I wouldn’t know where to start...

Hey Mark, why don’t you get Tom Fitton and Judicial Watch to get the docs. They seem to be the only group who can get the release of docs through FOIA. They are doing Congress’s work, since Congress is so lame.

Bureaucrats don’t do anything that’s why they are being removed and being replaced with PATRIOTS

Want to try another false premise?

Bureaucrats don’t do anything that’s why they are being removed and being replaced with PATRIOTS

So your standard is to replace those associated with criminality, rather than arrest them? Why are they treated differently than you or I? Also, who are these "patriots" that replaced Comey, McCabe, Strzok, Page, etc? and how do you know they are "patriots".

Name them, and provide any and all evidence as to their patriotic bonafides (No KooK YouTubes or blogs as evidence, thank-you)
