"I hope and expect this will be the only time I will speak to you in this manner," former special counsel Robert Mueller said in May as he gave what he thought would be his last public statement on his Russian collusion investigation. Yet, here he is, a day before his congressional testimony.
Mueller will comply with subpoenas to appear before the House Judiciary and Intelligence committees on Wednesday. But, he's getting mixed messages from the White House and Congress. On Monday night, the Department of Justice sent the witness a letter instructing him to limit his testimony to matters that have already been made public.
House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler told Mueller he can forget that note because nothing is off limits.
House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler says Robert Mueller does not have to comply with the DOJ letter that tells the special counsel to remain within the boundaries of your public report https://cnn.it/2M7EZmE
"He doesn't work for them," Nadler said, adding that the DOJ has a lot of audacity to send those instructions because it's "beyond the power" of the agency.
How "arrogant," he added.
House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler says its incredibly arrogant for the Justice Department to try and instruct Robert Mueller in his upcoming testimony http://cnn.it/32KqJpR
The chairman regretted how long it took to get Mueller before the committee because of the "unprecedented" level of obstruction from the White House. Asked what he wants out of the witness, Nadler told CNN that he plans to ask Mueller some pointed questions about possible impeachment. He'll inquire about the seriousness of President Trump's "impeachable offenses" related to the Russia investigation and, looking ahead, whether Congress could impeach the president and "not tear the country apart."
Mueller will sit before the House Judiciary Committee beginning at 8:30 a.m., and the House Intelligence Committee at noon on Wednesday. We'll be live blogging every minute here at Townhall.
Mueller will comply with the letter to a Tee. He doesn’t want to say anything more under oath than he absolutely has to. In fact, the letter doesn’t say anything that Mueller himself has said many times.
Yea he kinda does, big britches.
Nadler is wrong. Mueller does work for the DOJ. Violating executive privilege or confidentiality agreements puts him at risk. Nadler won’t be able to stop his civil or criminal liability......Mueller wont’ listen to stupid.
Ask Mueller about his meetings with Democrats before the testimony.
It would almost be funny if he strays, and then is arrested for compromising ongoing investigations.
Bill Barr better be ready to launch on No Honor EX-Marine if he deviates at all from the report.
Conservatives on the panel better be ready to rip him a new a-hole.
I expect the GOPe members to start with the nauseating: “Thank you for your service to the country.” Bull Sh!t.
Could this develop into a perjury trap for Mueller
if Trump/Barr declassify other documents?
Yep, he sure does.
Nadless isn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer.
Mueller is aware that if he adds any new information to the report (his testimony), he will be prosecuted by the DOJ for Obstruction of Justice.
He is likewise aware that if he removes anything from his testimony, he will be prosecuted by the DOJ for perjury.
Sorry Jerry. Mueller stating things that YOU want him to say that weren’t in his “best seller” would make any thinking person believe that he’s lying.

Mueller being prosecuted by anyone for anything lands in the realm of Powerball odds.
That ugly monster Nadler decides he is a minigod and tells Conway,Barr and others you must comply or are in criminal contempt but then tells his co-conspirator Mueller to skip it and ignore the instructions. Actually he isn’t “mini” anything.
By the way, does anyone here agree that his makeup and hair coloring make him look like a corpse?
Line from the great leftist Norman Mailer in the 1968 convention book:
Hubert Humphrey doesn’t look well and hasn’t for some time. The attempts by makeup artists to improve his looks seem to have been done by an undertaker and to the same dynamic.
Mueller already said, when he released his report, that he would not address questions that are not contained within the report or speak to topics that were not covered in it. The DOJ memo was not necessary.
The letter is really just to provide Mueller with an excuse not to answer tough questions about when he knew there was no collusion. The paragraph on executive privilege will be used by Mueller to avoid answering the tough questions.
It would be Awesome if heir Mueller took Nadler’s advise and Barr ARRESTED HIM DURING THE HEARING!!!
Not a lawyer here, but it’s obvious that Mueller is cagey. You don’t get where he got in D.C. without knowing how protect one’s self. He isn’t going to say anything beyond what he said in his report. The Dems will try to play their word-games with him and attempt to characterize a re-wording as “something new”! But it won’t stand up to analysis as the News cycle grinds on.
