As America prepares to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo moon landing, The New York Times is busy celebrating the Soviet space program and bashing Americas.
A Times op-ed Thursday highlighted how the Soviet Union was oh-so-diverse, sending women and people of color into space long before stuffy, old America got around to doing the same.
As the USSR retreats into the rearview mirror of history, there is a growing tendency to romanticize its disastrous reign through the lens of contemporary wokeness.
Sure, Communists tortured and executed dissidents, starved their own people by the millions and operated gulags but have you heard about their amazing space feminism and space intersectionality?
Cosmonaut diversity was key for the Soviet message to the rest of the globe, the writer, Sophie Pinkham, wrote. Her piece reads like something from an old issue of the Soviet newspaper Pravda boasting of the achievements of the Soviet space program.

Looking at the world through prog-colored glasses.
The USSR fell in 1991...How old was this NYT/USSR lover when they fell???
The ONLY thing she knows about the USSR is whatever she’s read and I promise you she has read nothing disparaging....
The Soviets sent “people of color” into space??
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Thanks for the laugh - the lungs needed cleaning-out!
Ignore my last post, it was incorrect. Sorry.
To the left, every aspect of the USA is tainted with white supremacy, patriarchy and homophobia.
The space program is a symbol of American greatness, which is why bammy halted it with the media refusing to tell the folks, and why Trump supports the space program.
If you’re on Twitter, a user with the handle @HollyMathNerd dropped the equivalent of an ICBM laydown on the Times’ meme, pointing out the dozens of women—from various ethnic backgrounds—who have gone into space as part of our program. As I posted on Twitter, the NYT staffers not vaporized by the massive detonation of truth were stumbling around the wreckage of the newsroom, asking someone to put them on low beam.
Maybe she should move to Ukraine and improve their space program rather than tear down American accomplishments from within the USA
Is that racist?
I was recently at the Smithsonian Air & Space museum and noticed they took down a very prominent exhibit I’d seen previously honoring all of the astronauts from the Gemini through Apollo programs, including illuminated photos of each figure.
Seems like an appropriate thing for a museum purporting to be about air and SPACE to honor a dozen or so of the first guys to actually visit space.
I had a suspicion the marms & scolds who run the Smithsonian considered them kinda an embarrassment, with their crew cuts and white male faces. This article confirms my suspicions., ‘cause they all run in thought-packs.
The left disgusts me beyond words.
They are still butt-hurt about how the Cold War ended.
The Soviet space program’s commitment to diversity is what got them to the moon before we got there.
Oh, wait....
The Times cannot publish beyond race, gender and sexual orientation.
Can’t allow a single moment to pass by where American pride and unity might be strengthened.
It’s not called Pravda on the Hudson for nothing.
Thanks for that link.
