The four congresswomen whom President Trump attacked over the weekend have weak approval ratings among a national audience, according to a new poll released Wednesday.
Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) had the highest approval among the four, with a net positive rating of +4 in The Economist/YouGov Poll.
She was one of only two Democrats included in the survey, along with Rep. Katie Porter (D-Calif.) with a positive approval rating.
Reps. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) all had net negative approval rating of -7, -8 and -9, respectively.
But outside of Ocasio-Cortez, a large amount of Americans don't have opinions on the first-year lawmakers.
Sixty percent of respondents did not know if they had a favorable or unfavorable view of Pressley, while 45 did not have an opinion either way on Tlaib and 41 did not have one on Omar.
Only 26 percent of respondents said they neither approved or disapproved of Ocasio-Cortez, whose unexpected primary win over Joe Crowley vaulted her to national notoriety, a figure lower than all 2020 Democratic candidates outside of former Vice President Joe Biden and Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.).
All four of the progressive lawmakers had higher net approval ratings than Congressional Democrats overall, who as a party had a -10 rating.
YouGov surveyed 1,500 adults between July 14, the day Trump attacked the four progressive lawmakers, and July 16. The margin of error for the sample is 2.6 points.
Trump on Sunday suggested those lawmakers, all women of color, should go back to other countries, despite all four congresswomen being U.S. citizens.
The House on Tuesday passed a Democrat-led resolution condemning Trump's tweets as "racist," largely along party lines. Four Republican lawmakers Reps. Susan Brooks (Ind.), Brian Fitzpatrick (Pa.), Will Hurd (Texas) and Fred Upton (Mich.) broke with their party to vote in favor of the resolution.
How about in their own district though? Thats all that matters.
Oh he attacked them?
Gosh, this really is unfortunate given that Nan just hitched her caucus to this clown car.
Leave it to The Hill to parrot the communist agitprop line.
Even though he never named names, states or districts, these 4 and the lames bit anyway. They are too easy.
The pearl clutchers on Fox like Kennedy just don’t get it. They should all watch Scott Adams’ daily video. To know these nasty women is not to love them. So POTUS got down and dirty with them. It won’t hurt him any. He could say Happy Birthday and they’d think it was a racist dog whistle. Not one dem or never-trumper would vote for him anyway.
“...Trump on Sunday suggested those lawmakers, all women of color, should go back to other countries, despite all four congresswomen being U.S. citizens...”
No, he did not...here is the exact tweet...Nowhere in the tweet is the word “countries”....
President Trumps tweet:
Why dont they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how ... it is done,
The word countries is never used in his tweet...The President did NOT tell these four to go back to the countries from where they came....
Rashida Tlaib should go back where she came from...Detroit Michigan...Thats one nasty town that definitely needs some work...
Alyana Pressley should go back where she came from: Chicago, Illinois...How many shootings per day there??? It could use a lot of help...
Ilhan Omar should go back to where she came from:...Somalia and Minneapolis, Minnesota...Nuff said...
Ajax Occasional Kotex should go back where she came from...New York City...Tell me De Blasio hasnt wrecked the hell outta that town???
There you have what President Trump was talking about...
Note to The Hill ... Their weak approval numbers are the REASON he attacked them. He wants them to be the face of the Democratic Party.
Excellent
I like it.....
But first he will make all the Presidential candidates defend these clowns and let us all know exactly how they feel too. He kind of backed them into a corner.
Where do I find one?
“How about in their own district though? Thats all that matters.”
My very thoughts too.
All Politics is Local!
I'm sure it's completely coincidental that all the faces in this little drama are female faces.
Kill shot.
