[[The young woman kept saying, “I don’t know why you corrected that because I spell it with the P in it.” The boss said (calmly), “But that’s not how the word is spelled. There is no P in hamster.”— Carol Blymire (@CarolBlymire) July 12, 2019]]

Perhaps she’s from Long Island.

According to a search on Bing, "often" is spelled with a "t" and pronounced with a "t".

OTOH, "soften" is spelled with a "t" but the "t" is not pronounced or is silent.

The “P” is silent, as in “swimming pool.”

I had a brain dead boss that added an “m” into the name of a company VP that didn’t have one.

This guy said jimbotron instead of jumbotron.

".... Peruvian...."

I have studied Spanish for many years from when I was a kid living in Spain for several years.

I met a Peruvian fellow in one of my adult classes in Spanish who introduced himself as "Bictor" or so I thought.

When I ask whether it was "Bictor" with a "b" or "Victor" with a "v", he replied that is was "Bictor" with a "v". Huh?

Turns out, his name was "Victor" but in Peru, they pronounced the "v" more like a "b" so his name came out spoken as "Bictor" instead of "Victor".

A lesson in how important it is to use the proper letters in words or proper names but also how important it is to pronounce them properly.
