Gustaf can remember the precise date when he last used cash. 'It was October 7 last year,' he told me without hesitancy.
'I found an old note that I had forgotten about and used it to buy some sweets.'
Like many others at his university in Gothenburg, Sweden, Gustaf relies on cards and smartphones to spend money. 'None of us use cash – you just don't need it these days,' he said.

But there is one problem – a big one. The 20-year-old computer science student keeps losing his bank cards, along with others that swipe open electronic locks for his apartment, gym and lecture halls. 'I laugh about it but it is very inconvenient.'
So he plans to get a tiny microchip, scarcely bigger than a grain of rice, injected into his hand which he says will make life easier as well as being 'cool and futuristic' – following the lead of at least 4,000 other Swedes as their country hurtles into a brave new world without hard cash.
They have chips inserted under their skin – usually above the thumb – to pay for their coffees and bus and train travel, waving a hand across payment machines as if using a contactless card.

I was buying phones (years ago) that should have been $100-$200.
Yet I bought one for $9.84 (2 actually at that price) - 4G Tracfones.
I bought two medium-sized Virgin Phones for $20 each (3 actually - gave one as a gift).
8-10 years ago these were $100-$200 phones and they’re giving them away like candy.
“They” (whoever “they” are) most certainly want everyone to have a Global Tracking Device, oops, “cellphone”.

Our local BofA installed ATM’s in the old drive thru teller lanes.
I don’t see why they would remove the ATM’s on the outside of their buildings
Probably in the case of the location you mentioned, it was cause they were shutting down that branch
Chase some time ago installed a couple of ATM’s inside their branches to cut down on teller use.
The GOP is going spineless so it all works out.
I believe “wall” ATM’s were usually serviced from the inside by tellers. No employee’s -—> no way to refill the cash, return cards, etc.
The outside ATM’s are serviced by roving maintenance guys. Yeah, they sometimes work on the wall machines, too.
Definitely two different types of machines, though. I seem to remember access panels or a locked small room by the wall ATM inside the building.

Yeah you had to have a certain level of assets (cash, income etc) to qualify. Anyone on SSI qualified.
Someone I knew had one, it was NOT user friendly.
Eventually this person lost the use of it as it needed to be requalified every year and that wasn’t done.

Sometimes I would see 2 employees go in the door to fill up the money slots, and to change receipt tapes I imagine.

I see the rovers. They pull up in a small lightly-armored vehicle. Bonded of course. Doing maintenance work - somebody has to refill the cash and get the collected cards (not as many ATM’s eat cards these days it seems).
Usually 2 people for double-security - counting, loading, etc. Unlikely both want to go to prison. I’m fairly-certain with no employees that’s why they ripped the wall one out. I went around to use it after the building closed and the drive-thru one was inoperable temporarily - GONE!!!
