Ted Cruz Slams Tennessee Law Honoring Confederate General, KKK Grand Wizard Nathan Bedford Forest

Mandated by law, Saturday, July 13 is "Nathan Forrest Bedford Day" Tennessee with an annual proclamation issued by the governor each year. On Friday evening, Senator Ted Cruz of Texas slammed Governor Bill Lee for signing the announcement once again.

This is WRONG. Nathan Bedford Forrest was a Confederate general & a delegate to the 1868 Democratic Convention. He was also a slave trader & the 1st Grand Wizard of the KKK. Tennessee should not have an official day (tomorrow) honoring him. Change the law. https://t.co/XBgoRCBoI0— Ted Cruz (@tedcruz) July 12, 2019

But why did he have to sign the law? Fox News has the details:

Tennessee law stipulates that the governor must declare six days to be "days of special observance" and "invite the people of this state to observe the days in schools, churches, and other suitable places with appropriate ceremonies expressive of the public sentiment befitting the anniversary of such dates."

Those days include Robert E. Lee Day, honoring the commander of the Confederate Army, on Jan. 19; Abraham Lincoln Day on Feb. 12; Andrew Jackson Day on March 15; Confederate Decoration Day, celebrating the birthday of Confederate President Jefferson Davis, on June 3; and Veterans Day on Nov. 11.

Accordingly, Democratic state Tennessee lawmakers also criticized the law and the day honoring Bedford.

"This a reminder of the painful and hurtful of the crimes that were committed against black people," Democratic Tennessee Rep. Vincent Dixie told WTVF. "Now you're signing a proclamation honoring the same people that fought to keep people that look like me, African Americans in slavery."

Ted, “don’t criticize what you don’t understand”, as the lyrics go.

Can you recommend a decent bio of Forrest? Sounds like it would be a fascinating and entertaining read.

I guess he’s GIVEN UP on trying to fool us into thinking that he’s actually with us.

Like most here, I supported him until Trump showed up, and holy crap, I had NO CLUE just who I was supporting - and I’ve voted for this guy in Texas. He certainly had me fooled.

Now that all of the problems of Texas have been taken care of, he has time to worry about Tennessee?

Not sure who’s ring your kissing here, but really - C’mon Ted.

By the way, since you apparently haven’t shaved since the Gillette razor commercials went tranny, there ARE other razors you can use without bowing to the lgbtq mafia.

ToughBlade that Brett Favre advertises for, Harry’s, and some others too.

Don’t cut yourself!

“It’s true Forrest was a slave trader and Klansman, but he was also one of the most brilliant generals of the Civil War.”

Two of my Great-Grandfathers rode under him. 10th Tennessee Cavalry. Should I turn myself in to the SPLC?

It’s fascinating to me that the reactionary hatred of Ted Cruz is so deep that defending a Democrat who made it his business to kill and oppose Republicans is now defended.

NBF was a Democrat and hated Republicans.

Ted Cruz is one of our nation’s greatest conservatives.

I’m glad he is my senator and he is again correct on this matter.

There is a book which I foolishly loaned someone, and never saw it again. The org. Forrest started was taken over by haters and MADE INTO the KKK. Forrest accepted Christ, adopted a black child and even did some preaching of the gospel in his later years. I doubt the high KKK office business. He was out before it morphed into that.

Maybe he ought to begin a crusade against the Namesake of Fort Hood, TX, Gen John Bell Hood gasp- a Confederate general who betrayed the Union to join the Confederacy and was one of it’s ablest Division and Corps Commanders....

The fact that he was a daring courageous warrior respected by friend and foe alike who stood for certain principles that found him on the losing side in history has nothing to do with the facts....

Hey Lyin’ Ted, I’ll make a deal with you.

If you get KKK Grand Dragon Robert C Byrd’s name removed from all roads, bridges, buildings, cemeteries, parks, airports, and waterways in the state of WV, then I’ll listen to your ideas about General Nathan Bedford Forrest.

Ted Cruz is one of our nation’s greatest conservatives.

Hence the demise of the conservative movement.
