Democratic presidential candidate Julián Castro claimed during a Sunday morning interview with George Stephanopoulos that the United States already pays for the healthcare of illegal immigrants through hospital emergency rooms.
Responding to the criticism Democrats received after the Thursday night presidential debate, in which all 10 candidates expressed their support of government-funded healthcare for illegal immigrants, Castro said, "Number one, undocumented immigrants already pay a lot of taxes. Second, we already pay for the healthcare of undocumented immigrants. It's called the emergency room. People show up in the emergency room and they get care, as they should. And then third, it's the right thing to do. We're not going to let people living in this country die because they can't see a doctor. That's not who we are as Americans."
Guidelines established by The Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act do ensure that hospital emergency rooms provide certain levels of care, regardless of the patient's insurance status or ability to pay at the time of their treatment. Care covered is described as emergencies and specific medical screenings. However, this does not void the patient's responsibility to pay for the provided healthcare in the future.
Castro further stated that he didn't feel the views he and his fellows Democrats hold on immigration and government benefits to illegal immigrants would help President Trump win in 2020.
Which is why Trump should have enforced maximal deportations from the first day of his administration.
We also pay when thousands of illegals come into our communities carrying infectious diseases. Stop them at the boarder, isolate then and send them back. Solves both problems.

I recall reading more than ten years ago that, even then, a scary number of clinics and hospitals in CA and the SW had to close because they were broke over this.

the ER doesn’t charge the illegal alien who gives a phony name then when the hospital or ER try to get reimbursement from the Federal govt they cant because theres no such person and theres no SSN...
consider how many times this must happen for the hospital to go underwater...due to illegal aliens gaming the system...
An American citizen must prove who he or she is before they get any treatment but an illegal alien can just show any old “document” and they get treated...
The Bee pointed out that in the Valley alone, 5 hospitals were shuttering their ERs because they couldn't afford to keep them open. And it was because of the abuse of crimigrants.

The proper term is not Emergency Room but Night Clinic.
ITIN's. Issued by the U.S. Dept of the Treasury to ANYONE who doesn't have a SS number. It's the same number they can use to buy cars and houses--and in 13 states, get issued a drivers license so they can kill us on our roads and then vote in our national elections. Sweet, huh?

If by the term “legal non-citizens” you mean IMMIGRANTS, they have an SSN...I received mine the first time I visited the INS, the first time it was open for business after I arrived, a Monday, the 3rd day I was in America...as I was instructed to do and as I promised to do...
I arrived on a Saturday, had my SSN on Monday, and the paperwork that gave me permission to seek employment...I was not allowed to actually work yet but I could look...the documents explained to prospective employers that my Alien Registration card was coming...
In those days on the 90th day I resided in America I could start work (whether or not I had received my green card) ...however by the 60th day I received my “green card” in the mail and was told by INS since I had it I could start work...I had already been employed by the Bell telephone company and I let them know I had my “green card” and started work the next Monday..
BTW I had worked for the previous 2+ years as an overseas telephone operator mostly putting through trunk calls to the US mainland or Japan etc and talking to the cute sounding guys while we waited for the calls to clear and connect...The American boys had no problem understanding my English/New Zealand accent and usually flirted with me as we waited sometimes 20-30 minutes (which was quite enjoyable) :)
However in America even though I spoke very good “English” English I was told I had a accent and I couldn’t be a telephone operator so I was offered a job in the business office...Now I don’t take calls from foreigners and I ask for someone who speaks my language English when I call a company and get a heavy accent...
