James Fields Jr., the white supremacist who murdered a woman two summers ago when he steered a Dodge Challenger into a crowd of peaceful demonstrators in Charlottesville, Va., was sentenced Friday to life in federal prison.
Lawyers for Mr. Fields, 22, had pleaded for mercy, citing his difficult childhood and mental health problems. Prosecutors had sought the life sentence, arguing that Mr. Fieldss racist, anti-Semitic beliefs motivated the decision to attend the white supremacist rally in Charlottesville and to attack counterprotesters, killing Heather Heyer and injuring dozens of others.
The defendants crimes were so horrendous and the maiming of innocents so severe that they outweigh any factors the defendant may argue form a basis for leniency, federal prosecutors told the judge in a sentencing memo. This is particularly true in light of the fact that he has demonstrated that he feels no remorse for his actions and continues to espouse his hateful ideology.
...
Mr. Fields was convicted separately in state court of first-degree murder in December, and jurors recommended a life sentence. A judge will decide in the coming weeks whether to accept that recommendation.

I saw the video incompletion. Assuming that somebody really was after him, he could have turned right or left onto the street, instead of crossing it and going down a narrow alley.
He deserves life for his crime.
“He must have the worlds worst legal team...”
No legal team at all, just a public defender.
Manslaughter is about all you could actually make a case for, and even that would be a tough sell if this case were under any other circumstances.
The problem is, with the situation that actually existed, none of those charges apply.
Troll. See the comments following yours.
Sure there is. Look up what happened to bike lock guy, what happened to Steve Scalise’s shooter.
Troll.
I didn’t follow the case, but from what little I know, he could have just claimed self-defense, that it was an accident as he fled the violent crowd. Even a public defender who had his client’s interests at heart, which is that public defender’s job, should have defended that way, rather than have him plead guilty to this. If James Fields wasn’t a neo-nazi before this, he is going to become one in prison. He’ll also probably appeal after sitting in the cooler for a couple of years, win, and potentially sue the system that put him there.
President Trump’s involvement in this made it worse for him.
Definitely not winning, and I’m already tired.
Dwayne Dixon got community service for banishing a gun at a political event.
I am in NO way defending Field I agree with the court that he should've turned right.
Though there is more to the story then the media saying.
Or that he has been prescribed since high school ADHD drugs as well as anti-anxiety meds and meds to control his bi-polar diagnosis.
While his car, which was travelling 17mph, did hit and minorly injure several others who did not get out of his way, he impacted a toyota which had a minvan (shifter was in PARK for both vehicles) and his car did not directly impact her, but moved the two vehicles. This girl was standing in front, facing the rear of the marron minivan that “hit” her. Diagnosis was blunt force cardiac contusion causing a heart attack.
So this was not a LIFE sentence first degree murder— not at all, and he could not possibly have thought hitting two other vehicles would result in a death. Cardiac contusion— causing a heart attack. He did not “run her down”, nor did he do so with any intent other than escape the Antifa who smashed his rear windows (evidence in the trial).
So this will have to be appealed if he did not change his plea. He should get 20 years or so— it is not first degree.
Eric Clanton got three years probation.
“President Trumps involvement in this made it worse for him.”
Sure, pal, like you know that.
Though Trump was correct. There where good people on both sides that simply wanted to preserve history.
Where? Put up or shut up.
In my opinion, President Trump’s involvement in this case made it worse for the driver.
Hopefully that will pass the threshold you obviously have set as a monitor
“han escape the Antifa who smashed his rear windows (evidence in the trial).”
His window was smashed after he drove into the crowd.
Apparently those postings included messages describing how much he was looking forward to traveling to Charlottesville so he could run people over with his car.
If that's true, then the only hope he ever had was an insanity defense.
IIRC, President Trump said something disparaging about the driver.
Can’t remember what it was, the thread monitors are active here today so I just went to repeat that my memory may be faulty.
That would explain it then.
Assume you mean “brandishing” the AR-15— which leads to the question... what was an Antifa clown carrying ammo and an AR 15 to a public rally, doing? Under VA law— could he carry a firearm in a registered public event? Another “wonder”.
