President Trump called off a round of deportations slated to begin Sunday, saying he was delaying them for two weeks at the request of Democrats — though he said both sides need to use the time to strike a broader deal on stopping new illegal immigrants.
The surprise move came just hours after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi requested the delay, calling the planned deportations too cruel.
“At the request of Democrats, I have delayed the Illegal Immigration Removal Process (Deportation) for two weeks to see if the Democrats and Republicans can get together and work out a solution to the Asylum and Loophole problems at the Southern Border. If not, Deportations start!” the president said on Twitter.
Just hours earlier Mr. Trump had said he was committed to the deportations, calling them an important consequence.
“When people come into our Country illegally, they will be DEPORTED!” he’d tweeted.
U.S. Immigration and Customs had sought to make good on that stance with plans to begin searching out and deporting thousands of illegal immigrants who’d been ordered removed by a judge, have exhausted their cases, but are defying the orders.

I have no idea..announcing a raid was a bad move..and saying a two week delay, well in two weeks when nothing happens the criminal aliens will hide, same boat all over again

He should have given her one week period. In Orlando he said if the Dems wanted to get it done ot could be done in 15 minutes.
The dems are not stupid. They may be infuriating as hell, but they aren't stupid. They stick together and they delay brilliantly. They know how to be patient and play the long game. Right now, they are running out the clock. If they can get those two major promises to fail (and don't kid yourself - those are two MAJOR promises shouted by him or his supporters at almost every rally and right now they are unfulfilled) - they know a lot of people will stay home. They don't need them to vote for whoever (D)...they just need them not to vote. They need them to be frustrated with what took them to the polls in droves last time. That is politics 101 - how do you catch lightning in a bottle. That is what this is about. That is what hearing after hearing is about.
There's no shot-clock in politics. Trump MUSt be aware of what things like this does to his base. We want a wall (like he described...not a fence...not barricades...but a big beautifal wall)...and we want criminals locked up. I'm getting my judges. I'm very happy with that. I did NOT, however, get my Johnson Amendment repeal. That is the REPUBLICANS fault. They are slime.

Why do you think that there was a mistake? Since you don’t have any idea what’s going on behind the scenes, the announcement was, in all probability, part of Trump’s original plan. Second guessing President Trump is a fruitless exercise.
It wasn’t a leak it was an on purpose . He can say my hand are tied u change the law or u will trigger the deportations. The pressure is all on them. Isn’t he on Meet the Press tomorrow? The kinder Donald. He has us. The next 16 months convincing others how reasonable he is. Its a con job.
I don’t have a word for how stupid this on multiple levels. First mistake was announcing it in the first place.

And yet, look at the long list of “Armchair Quarterbacks” here on FR blasting him for what he’s doing! I get really tired of people here who don’t know jack $hit braying like a bunch of mules every time Trump does something they don’t have the mental acuity to try and understand. I admit freely I don’t have a good idea of the strategy, but I am willing to let the President play things out the way he sees fit! Why don’t some of you give it a rest and wait and see what happens?
This makes no sense to me. I hope there is more to this than what we have been told.
He found out it might affect 150 people. I love the man, but he is looking weak lately. Forget Iran (he should’ve never said anything about calling it off). Now a big immigration announcement for weeks then backs down.
But the biggest weakness I see is that no new materials have appeared since declassification, no arrests (or talk of arrests), and the all the criminal actors are still spouting their mouths off unafraid. It’s like they know nothing is going to happen.
Don't put anything passed them. Some black-robed tyrant tried to stop Trump from banning trannies from joining the military. That's some black-robed tyrant telling the Commander in Chief of the US military that he cannot set rules for who may or may not enlist.
You should realize that these people never cared about the Constitution, and it's far more obvious now.
Go negative on the Dems who refuse to work with Republicans.
Remember.....Nancy said not $1 for the wall....and next thing you know, the President got 1.5 billion.
