A congressional hearing erupted when black Quillette writer Coleman Hughes trashed a bill to study slavery reparations as a “moral and political mistake,” forcing the chair of the hearing to tell the audience to “chill” several times.
The House Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties held a hearing Wednesday entitled “H.R. 40 and the Path to Restorative Justice,” at which witnesses testified about reparations for slavery. HR 40 is a bill which proposes a commission to study reparations.
Hughes testified for the minority and delivered a lengthy opening statement against the bill in question. After noting that “nothing I’m about to say is meant to minimize the horror and brutality of slavery and Jim Crow” and that he considers “our failure to pay reparations directly to freed slaves after the civil war to be one of the greatest injustices ever perpetrated by the US government,” he went in on the bill for four solid minutes.
The audience at the hearing booed Hughes after he said, “Black people don’t need another apology. We need safer neighborhoods and better schools. We need a less punitive criminal justice system. We need affordable health care. And none of these things can be achieved through reparations for slavery.”

Anyway the demand for safer streets is what than Democrats want to forget about,l.
So the Democratic Party, that gave us slavery and Jim Crow, having turned their backs on their long-time preferred constituency, the Middle Class in pursuit of being the Party of all minorities, seeks to mollify the Black Americans they abused and used by paying them reparations in exchange for using them once again. Got it!
According to Walter Williams, when you put together the gdp of black Americans, it surpasses the gdp of EVERY African nation. I don’t support reparations for any black American. I truly wish them the best, but there is no gratitude for their opportunities and there is no mercy towards innocent whites or appreciation for whites who may have not been completely perfect in their actions, but for the most part tolerated the black community despite the lopsided interracial violent crime. To top it off the US government has spent untold billions on entitlements like housing, healthcare, food and affirmative action.
My lily white father picked cotton when he was a child in 30’s. The black pickers laughed at him because he couldn’t haul the heavy bag.
Where does he pick up his check and does he get extra for being laughed at?
The equivalent of Obama phones and EBT cards. It’s so obvious this is just about gimmedats wanting free sh*t. That’s all it is. And of course buying votes.
Rep. Cohen is batshit crazy and always has been. He’s a “black wannabe” and has said so because he wanted to join the Congressional Black Caucus years ago because the majority of his constituents are black.
Cohen, in case he doesn’t know it, is White, Jewish (I’m Jewish and he’s no Jew), and Insane, not necessarily in that order.

Blacks need to really pay attention to what the dems are doing and saying.
I cannot fathom why blacks across the country are not up in arms about this.
This IS NOT about reparations.
It is about convincing Blacks that only the Democrats care about them.
My goodness, how they really cared during the 16 years the Clintons and Obamas ruled the roost.
This is a fraud on Blacks. “The Study” will be exploited for election purposes.
That’s all this is about.
How about the descendants of the British, Spanish etc slave traders that brought the slaves to the West? How about the Muslim Africans that captured their fellow Africans and sold them into Slavery?
They certainly would owe more that those of us whose ancestors immigrated here after the Civil War. Or the ancestors that fought for their freedom and protected them as they escaped slavery.
Historically there would be no end of those held accountable.

it will be interesting to see how they handle the issue of 40^ of free black folks living who weren’t slaves during slave years. Will they be fined? What of those abandoned by Spain, France and Messico or those held by indian tribes? Out of luck? Or the African nations and Portuguese that trafficked in slavery, white, arab and black, in the first place. Which critter will bring up the eye-opening tab for decades of AA, and other black-specific preferential educational and work programs?
A term was bandied about today, ‘robbed of generational wealth’ but wasn’t the entire South ‘robbed of generational wealth’ too? The losers lost everything - cities, businesses, homes, livestock, the ability to migrate west even. Same as laws passed in the North prohibiting black migration. The Virtue Signalers are backing themselves into a corner with this debate - no one left to pay but them, a bit ironic.
Cohen dismissed Hughes’ testimony as ‘presumptive’.
I guess Cohen thinks “How dare some intelligent black guy (Oreo) presume to speak for other blacks?!”
Hughes had some really good points, such as reparations effectively marking successful blacks as victims.

SCOTUS has ruled a very long time ago that a son or daughter cannot receive a punitive action for acts which he or she did not do, that were perpetrated by a parent. Only now we're looking at multiple generations apart. 9-0 SCOTUS ruling throwing any such law out will be the anti-radical right-wing and racist SCOTUS screams by the left.
Affirmative Action, welfare, food stamps, lowering of admission standards, HUD, Fair Housing Act...
