Trump Announces Mexico ‘Signed’ Agreement, Tariffs Threat Suspended

US President Donald Trump announced via Twitter late Friday that a signed agreement has been reached with Mexico, and that the tariffs scheduled to go into effect on Monday have been suspended.

Just last week, Trump announced that a five percent tariff on all goods coming from Mexico would go into effect on June 10, and would gradually increase up to 25 percent until the illegal immigration problem was resolved.

The announcement launched a flurry of talks between officials from both countries, with reports that Mexico was willing to make some concessions.

Late Friday, Trump tweeted, “I am pleased to inform you that The United States of America has reached a signed agreement with Mexico. The Tariffs scheduled to be implemented by the U.S. on Monday, against Mexico, are hereby indefinitely suspended.”

Trump via Twitter said that Mexico, “has agreed to take strong measures to stem the tide of Migration through Mexico, and to our Southern Border. This is being done to greatly reduce, or eliminate, Illegal Immigration coming from Mexico and into the United States.”

Trump said that details of the agreement will be released shortly by the State Department.

“Magnificent timing for POTUS to step out of the plane.”

The “optics” are stunningly perfect.

It’s amazing what greedy SOB’s will do when confronted with a “cost” for their insolence.

You present as a conservative but have voiced a hard line with regard to Trump's handling of the "illegal" situation. That is fine, of course, but I would like to hear your logic.

IMO, you seem unwilling to afford any leeway by the fact Trump, essentially an inexperienced politician who started his presidency with few trusted and experienced advisors near at hand, is surrounded by imposters and assassins in both parties.

If he "offends" too many of them they have the means of promptly throwing him out of office. I.e., he can be brash and forceful under threat of termination and that action-reaction calibration no doubt changes everyday with new events.

You offer here two interesting opinions re Pence:

Pence was most likely part of the worst of the coup against Trump...
You will agree "most likely" rather than "certainly" is a bit vague, is that just speculation or do you have something pertinent?

"The worst" clearly includes the illegal and what is left is just vanilla politics, betrayal, backstabbing, etc.; what in your opinion, if anything, did Pence do that was illegal?

If nothing, then perhaps Pence is merely part of the "deep state". While the Clintons, Comey, Muellar, et al have criminal behavior to defend the Deep State has not been shown to be a criminal organization.

While it is possible that initially Trump was conned by Pence, or others in this regard, do you think at this point the street-wise Trump, now perhaps the most well-informed man in the world, remains so conned?

But he is unlikely to end up bounced from the ticket.
You seem to suggest that even if Pence drops the ball he is secure in the VP slot. Is it not possible that Trump now has suspicions about Pence? If so, is it possible that with this assignment Pence is being tested as a potential means of gaining support from certain senate republicans?

Have a nice weekend. {;^]

If you haven’t got the picture re: Pence you must not pay too much attention to the alternative media and must mostly rely on the MSM. Pence is widely believed to have been in on the coup, including the 25th amendment effort, early in the admin and some have thought that he might have been wearing a wire at some point early in his WH meetings with Trump. Certainly he was the guy who worked overtime on getting Flynn dumped after they set Flynn up. He also is longtime best buds with both Ryan and Flake.

Trump made major mistakes with his hiring and close advisors, starting with his daughter and son-in-law, who brought in all kind of GOPe and Democrat globalist backstabbers and obstructionists.

Trump is doing the best he knows how and has taken on a Herculean task at great risk. I am appreciative of that, but I am not of the school that believes that pom-poms only are effective in getting a political leader to do what he was elected to do. Without pressure from the base he will just hear from and bend to the opposing side.

you...must mostly rely on the MSM.
Your reading list must be better than mine, why don't you send me one or two links that support your precise points about Pence? I am not saying you are wrong, just that your two statements above are logically inconsistent.

...widely believed...some have thought...
Still pretty vague.

I am not of the school that believes that pom-poms only are effective in getting a political leader to do what he was elected to do.
Pom-poms are always nice but, of course, it is sometimes necessary to give a leader time and means to work out what you call "Herculean tasks".

What is logically inconsistent? Reagan got forced to take on Poppy Bush and Poppy almost succeeded in wiping him out early on—but he was on his re-election ticket.

Time for an absolute cessation of the flood across the border, not another promise.

Yessir, exactly right.

Just another piece of paper with corrupt politicians names on it do NOT secure the border.

First place, how they going to measure success? When you secure the border, you have a barrier and/or the military with real guns and ammo pointing south into Mehico. That is measurable.

This BS is not and only allows for them to stage more of the caravans to invade us from Africa and the ME. Yeah, the agreement is for SA countries ONLY, not any other land mass in the world. Great deal......

Exactly right - ALL it is, is a signature on a piece of paper. ........................ yeah, kinda like; “He was such a charming old man, I felt I had to give him my autograph!”.
