Mueller, in First Comments on Russia Inquiry, Declines to Clear Trump
New York Times ^ | 05/29/2019 | By Sharon LaFraniere and Eileen Sullivan

Robert S. Mueller III, the special counsel, on Wednesday declined to clear President Trump of obstruction of justice in his first public characterization of his two-year-long investigation of Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election.

“If we had had confidence that the president clearly did not commit a crime, we would have said so,” Mr. Mueller said, reading from prepared notes behind a lectern at the Justice Department. “We did not, however, make a determination as to whether the president did commit a crime.”

He also said that while Justice Department policy prohibits charging a sitting president with a crime, the Constitution provides for another process to formally accuse a sitting president of wrongdoing — a clear reference to the ability of Congress to begin impeachment proceedings.

Although his remarks closely matched statements contained in his more than 400-page report, Mr. Mueller’s portrayal of Mr. Trump’s actions was not as benign as Attorney General William P. Barr’s characterizations. While Mr. Barr has seemed to question why the special counsel investigated the president’s behavior, Mr. Mueller stressed the gravity of that inquiry.

“When a subject of an investigation obstructs that investigation or lies to investigators, it strikes at the core of their government’s effort to find the truth and hold wrongdoers accountable,” he said.

He suggested that he was reluctant to testify before Congress, as the House Judiciary Committee has asked. “The report is my testimony,” he said.

The ‘garden’ is being ‘weeded’, and what do you mean ‘do it ourselves’? What kind of cryptic comment is that?

No, what the poster said is correct, impeachment will hurt the Democrats, not Trump.

They can also ask him when he knew there was no conspiracy with Russia. Was it day 1 or day 30 because it couldn’t have been later? He drug this farce out for personal political reasons. What a twit.

So, it's OVER.

The greatest deception and lies in the history of America continue as long as Mueller and Comey are here.

He also needs to be asked, under oath, at what point in time, did he and his staff(henchmen) determine there was no collusion. He doesn’t want to testify under oath, which is why he put out this partisan, purposefully damning, but professionally and legally ungrounded and vindictive statement. Vicious coward.

What you said. This statement made by Mueller infuriates me.

“If we had had confidence that the president had clearly not committed a crime we would have said so.”

That’s not how it works in America. Investigators are supposed to look for evidence that a crime was committed, and, if they don’t find enough to contend that a crime was a committed, they are supposed to say “We didn’t find enough to contend that a crime was committed.”

They are NOT supposed to look for evidence that a crime was not committed and then say, “We couldn’t find evidence of innocence.”

If a person doesn’t have enough evidence that someone committed a crime to contend that a crime was committed, he is obliged to PRESUME HIS INNOCENCE.

“Not exonerated” is not a standard in our system, and it shouldn’t be one in our culture, either. By doing what he did, Mueller just set a very bad precedent.

Mueller is SCARED TO DEATH to be brought before a public hearing. He thought his little speech today would end his involvement, or maybe he KNEW it would cause a firestorm around him. Either way, he miscalculated today, BIG TIME!

We could be enjoying an American Renaissance, a time of growth and prosperity that would rival the post-war boom. But instead, we have globalists and domestic enemies acting like crabs in a bucket. I’d really like to see every one of them, from the elite to the brainwashed college students, suffer like starving dogs.

Note the weasel words "Russia Inquiry" . Notice how the word collusion is being phased out?

“If we had had confidence that the president had clearly not committed a crime we would have said so.”

Guilty until proven innocent, that is an OUTRAGE and an AFFRONT to our Civil Liberties.

Did you notice at Nadler's presser today that he dropped his whole "drag Mueller in" bravado? Nad's was told in no uncertain terms to not call him to testify and Nad's will not call him - that's the HUGE news today.

So he’s implying, in as strong a way as he can, that he believes the House should start impeachment proceedings because they are the only ones, Constitutionally speaking, who *can* charge him with a “high crime or misdemeanor”.

I can't understand your explanation of Mueller's supposed logic. Despite how you believe Mueller is twisting this, eventually you, Mueller, Congress or anyone else, must, at some point, land on a positive statement - "Trump did XYZ action"

If you have read the Mueller report, please tell me what that is.

Because there was NO COLLUSION AND NO OBSTRUCTION. And that is tearing the Dems apart.

RE: We could be enjoying an American Renaissance, a time of growth and prosperity that would rival the post-war boom. But instead, we have globalists and domestic enemies acting like crabs in a bucket.

Well, who is to blame? I would say the American voters themselves. They are either apathetic/indifferent or knew what a Democrat takeover of the house would entail, yet, ALLOWED the Dems to take over the lower house in 2018.

The result is this -— No border wall, an invasion from the south, a green new deal proposal that the Dems themselves do not want to vote on, anti-semitic congresswomen, and proposals to further cut the budget of our military but increase spending on benefits for those who are here illegally.... and to top that -— impeachment talk 24X7.

We deserve the government we get.

He didn’t find enough evidence to convict him, so he is cleared!

Herr Mueller didn’t find any evidence to even file charges against President Trump.
