Edward Snowden said the Justice Department declared "war" on journalism after accusing WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange of violating the Espionage Act.
Federal prosecutors filed a new 18-count indictment against Assange on Thursday, adding 17 counts to the single count that was unsealed in early April, alleging he unlawfully received and leaked information related to national defense.
Snowden reacted on Twitter. "The Department of Justice just declared war not on Wikileaks, but on journalism itself. This is no longer about Julian Assange: This case will decide the future of media." he said.

Seems like more injustice has been perpetrated on US citizens than disasters averted by implementing this ill-advised function in government
I agree with you. I wish we had some Russian spy on ice that we could trade for Snowden. He needs to come back and face the music.
Last I knew, Mr. Snowden, the US wasn’t the country keeping Assange in the clink.
Like Assange, Snowden’s crime was exposing what our government was doing to us. There may have been damage in exposing assets, but I don’t know why any patriot would be angry with Snowden. I’m more suspicious of the exposed assets than of him.
Without wikileaks, I’d assume Hillary would be president right now; the race was that close. The emails exposing her lies and BS, and the media’s complicity exposed in them, were critical.
Every single American, black, brown or white, democrat or republican, rich, poor, middle class should be scared to death and or angry as all get out by what we now know of the alphabet agencies weaponized and turned against American citizens.
Edward Snowden: DOJ ‘declared war’ on journalism by charging Julian Assange with espionage>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Buahahahahahahahahaha!
Snowdon is a petty harridan of the first order, a front man for the DNC and the liberal fascist Deep State.
Barr is closing in on one side and Assange on the other? It is Julian Assange who knows all of the contacts who he used as sources. People who the DNC and the Deep State silenced, especially concerning the assassination of Sanders supporter and IT worker at the DNC, Seth Rich, likely an Assange source; and the primary reason why the DNC would not hand its allegedly Russia hacked compromised servers over to the FBI for forensic investigation. The servers would have revealed the Seth Rich murder motives of the DNC.
In short Julian Assange knows exactly where all the bodies are buried and he is going to sing to Barr like a canary.
Thats Snowden’s real problem, its not “journalism.” Snowden wants to impress his handlers at the DNC so he can get the Dems to drop espionage charges against him, so he can return home to the USA from Mother Russia, the utopia for many commie traitors like Snowden and Bernie Sanders.
Snowden needs jail time, badly.
Meanwhile, Asante is still sitting his happy heinie in a UK jail.
Why...?
Is there a knock on your door yet? They are reading what you are writing as you are writing it.
But if it makes US journos **** their pants, how is it a bad thing?
They always have been. If anyone thinks that every keystroke that they make is not recorded and held for potential use against them is naive. Even if they are not reading what you are writing at the moment, it is all recorded and can and would be used against you. However, my issue with Snowden is that he is a traitor, residing under Russia protection. If he can make a case in court why he can justify passing on highly classified information, then let him make it. THAT is my point...So write away, with the knowledge that even if someone is reading this, there are patriots in all of the IC and would likely want Snowden tried as well.
It may take a while, but is jail in the UK really all that worse than a room in the Ecuadorian Embassy -- except for the food?
Assange can't walk, but Manning served only 7 years and that is certainly better than the dozen or so consecutive life sentences he's facing.
I don’t think I’ve ever been more split on how I feel about a national security situation. I don’t like people mishandling sensitive information but the taxpayers need to know things that are not in their interest. Basically what we need is to get back to basics. If that will ever happen. A patriot test for all government employees. They take the oath of office now with their fingers crossed behind their backs.
lol...I'm small potato's. Rest assured, they see what I post.
I'm not afraid.
I was Obama who wanted to put political monitors in the newsrooms.
no he needs to tell us what he knows.
the thing that shocked me the most is this guy tried to tell people what he found.
He had the ability to look in and see if he could find anyone who was clean enough to run with his information.
and there was no one!
Correct. And the key word is ‘indicted’
He, and Snowden are innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.
We often lose site of that crucial aspect of the law...I sure hope to hang onto it if I’m ever indicted for anything
Meanwhile, Asante is still sitting his happy heinie in a UK jail.>>>>>>
DOJ under Barr can interrogate Assage much better over seas. Imagine how heavily lawyered up Assange would be in the USA?The Dems would make sure he was never questioned one way or the other. Assange would be a prime candidate for Arkanicide if he was in the USA.
So the Brits are keeping him so they can prosecute him. Actually Assange’s only hope to stay free is to cut a deal with Barr.
I am certainly with you on that.
I’ve held security clearances. Since the Snowden affair I have thanked God in Heaven that I didn’t face the (both bad) choices he had to select from
The same UK government that we suspect has been an active participant in Spygate is holding on to Assange to aid the US?
Color me skeptical.
To aid the Uniparty/Deep State assuredly. Never the US.
Snowden is deep state. It was NSA Director Adm Rogers who Snowden, as part of Brennan’s CIA, was after. Adm Rogers is a hero.
Snowden is not a patriot, Assange is. The two are not and never will be friends. Snowden is using Assange’s plight to cast aspersions on the Trump Admin.
Assange is being charged with all sorts of espionage but he will be cleared, by design.
The reason Assange is so charged is that Sweden is in a tug of war with the USA by reviving a fake and previously dropped rape charge against him so that they have a basis for extraditing Assange to them and not extraditing him to the USA. Trump Admin countered with more serious espionage charges that under NATO force UK to give up Assange to the USA.
I know it’s convoluted but these deep state boys like to play the spook games and mess with people’s minds, sow confusion, it’s what they do.
Why is Sweden doing this? There is a globalist deep state contingent in Sweden as well. For years they have subjugated Swedes to Muslim migration and jailed any Swede that objects. The Swedish police don’t like what they see in their leadership but they fall in line reluctantly. The Swedish people who are some of the most politically passive and compliant people on Earth are now moving towards a yellow-vest moment. The police there agree with the counter sentiments in private.
The fight is in the UK and with Teresa May gone, it’s near certain Assange will be given over to the USA where his testimony will be a nail in the coffin to the deep state here especially with testimony that it was Seth Rich that leaked the DNC emails to Wikileaks.
There are those in the UK system that want to see Assange murdered but he is said tv be safe for now.
Dmitri Alperovitch is a founder of Crowdstrike that was originally funded by Warburg-Pincus <== Rothschild central banking network. Alpervitch is a member of the Atlantic Council and hobnobs as a candidate to be placed in the Zuckerberg-Page-Brin Tech Lords club.
Alperovitch is the one that was ordered to run the lie that the DNC email compromise was a hack, not a leak. But Assange has the proof that it was a leak, not a hack.
