The United States Postal Service (USPS) will run out of cash in five years. Postmaster General Megan Brennan shared this news in testimony before the House Oversight and Reform Committee earlier this month. The immediate consequence of USPS becoming insolvent would be that the world's largest postal system - which moves 150 billion mail pieces per year, or 412 million pieces per day - would be dead in the water. This is something that has never occurred in the Postal Service's long and storied history.
If you think these primary effects would be devastating, the secondary effects would be catastrophic. More than half a million postal workers would be without wages. Magazine companies, which send millions of glossies per month, would be stuck trying to find local deliverers. Retailers - particularly those that sell via catalogs - would see their main advertising medium vanish. The paper and printing companies they work with would see their revenues plunge. Prescription drug deliveries would be disrupted as sellers scrambled to find alternate means for delivery. Jury summons, voting materials (including ballots for overseas troops), and international mail and shipments would stop flowing.
During the hearing, Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) demanded USPS produce a turnaround plan by July that would save the Postal Service. To date, the agency's plan has consisted of trying to trim costs, mostly by reducing the hours worked by employees, and reaping more revenue by delivering more.

Without going into an hours-long conversation about all the ills of our postal system, I'll add one more and were done: the ranks of supervisors, 204-Bs, plant managers, and postmasters should be scoured for any semblance of misconduct and summarily fired with no benefits. The hiring practice of bringing in family members, parolees with violent crime / drug histories and political preference to the left should be immediately stopped.
And that's a hefty beginning, and only such.
They’ll make up for it on volume!
This is actually one of the few functions of the Federal government which is allowed by the Constitution.
Forever stamps you bought ago will not be Forever. They are losing money .
most of my mail is junk mail.
What you said...and more
It’s a real shame if the government can’t keep its one or two constitutionally mandated functions afloat. Wonder what else is getting screwed up thanks to all of its UNconstitutionally meddling!
they need to print stamps people will buy, but never use. /s

Could we get by WITHOUT a Post Office?
For over the last 15 years, I’ve been hearing that both the US Postal Service and Amtrac are billions of dollars in debt and bleeding money.
I’m thinking they need to print stamps people will buy, but never use!
I know, We can turn them into Banks that serve the under served.
Like, a Payday lender or Cash for Title co.
They could sell burner phones and trade in WIC cards.
With a dollar store in the back.
Student loans?
No problem.
A work Visa?
No Problem.
Need a Social Security number?
No Problem.
Voter registration?
LOL.
Step right up.
If I got my mail three times a week it would be plenty. Fewer trips to the garbage can that way.

Garbage like this is why they’re losing money.
That and the unions they’re in bed with...
Ive been hearing about the demise of the USPS for at least 20 years now! The sky is always falling
A letter carrier with some seniority, on overtime, can make close to $500 a day when making time and a half. I think they can make more annual wage than some aircraft pilots. A good portion of their day might be stuffing garbage in people’s mailboxes, sleeping, talking on their cell phone, hiding out in businesses bathrooms, or gambling online with government credit cards.
Leftists over time, with a heap of helping from management, completely ruined it. Mostly leftists though.
Charge China real rates for delivering their mail to the US. The USPS is subsidizing China’s mail. It costs less to mail packages from China to the US than the same package within the US. The post office is delivering China’s mail for pennies.
The Post Office died a long time ago. It’s a corpse propped up.
