A roadside bomb hit a tourist bus on Sunday near the Giza Pyramids, wounding at least 17 people including tourists, Egyptian officials said.
The officials said the bus was traveling on a road close to the under-construction Grand Egyptian Museum, which is located adjacent to the Giza Pyramids but is not yet open to tourists.
The bus was carrying at least 25 people mostly from South Africa, officials added.
Security forces cordoned off the site of the explosion and the wounded were taken to a nearby hospital, they said.
They said the explosion damaged a windshield of another car. Footage circulated online shows shattered windows of the bus.
Egypt has battled Islamic militants for years in the Sinai Peninsula in an insurgency that has occasionally spilled over to the mainland, hitting minority Christians or tourists.
The attack comes as Egypts vital tourism industry is showing signs of recovery after years in the doldrums because of the political turmoil and violence that followed a 2011 uprising that toppled former leader Hosni Mubarak.

Hey, it’s ramadamadingdong! starving, parched bearded camel humpers gotta have some fun!
Why would any Westerner vacation in a muslim country?
A huge proportion of the population just wants to kill you.
This is really going to hurt tourism, which Egypt depends on.
Well THAT Bucket List item just blew straight up
Mostly Europeans (esp. Germans and French) and some South Africans and occasionally Australians. You will never find an American family...
Egypt is fantastic - spent some time there and theres nothing on Earth like it. 99% of the people there wonderful and like Americans a lot. And 10% are Christians.
The whole point of the terrorism is to scare people away- dam shame if you let them chase you away.
Back in 92 I was responsible for 64 Marines as part of a Bright Star exercise near Cairo. There had been a terror attack that killed four people in a restaurant so the army leadership shut down liberty in town. I was able to maneuver things (the deputy commander was a Marine) and I took all of my Marines to Cairo and to the pyramids.
When certain sights and events are important/maybe once in a lifetime, dont chicken out.
A huge proportion of the population just wants to kill you.
We were very close to booking a Nile River cruise....NOT NOW. what the HELL is wrong with these MUSLIMS??
Off the Bucket List...t’s now on the F@CKET List.
The u.n. needs to move over there (ALL of it) and straighten it out.
If you visit the ME for fun and youre a westerner. good luck to you but dont complain if you get blowed up real good.
Don’t tell me it was the Amish!
Have they announced it had nothing to do with Islam yet?
I visited Israel and Jordan in 1996 and there was an option to do Egypt. Our tour group had 15 of us and 9 took the Egypt option. I didnt go as I was going to do 2 months in Europe on a Eurailpass. After I got back those who had went to Egypt said it wasnt worth the extra money. They didnt have as good a time as in Jordan and Israel. IIRC there had already been deadly attacks on tourists at that time. Not that Israel and Jordan were terror free but I did feel ok safety wise while there.
Well said, Chainmail.
We always wanted to go until we saw the Egyptians celebrating the wtc attack. Now could care less about that country. My 2 cents
“World Public Opinion: 83% of Egyptians approve of attacks on American troops.”
