Cut Taxes for the Little Guy, Mr. President

The timing is perfect. I wrote a few weeks ago recommending a Trump version of the Green New Deal. Except President Donald Trump's Green New Deal would not be about green energy or global warming. It would be about the "green" that most Americans care about: money.

Americans are overtaxed and can't keep up with the heavy federal tax burden. In short, Mr. President, "the taxes are too damn high." The little guy needs and deserves the same break you gave to American businesses. Now is the perfect time to make the announcement.

Gallup polling announced this week that not only is Trump's approval rating at an all-time high, but his poll numbers are also higher than Barack Obama's were at the same time in his presidency.

Mr. President, you are the most popular you've ever been. In Vegas casino terms, you have a bankroll of goodwill. It's time to strike while the iron is hot. The Trump economy is booming. The Trump Miracle not only keeps going, but it's also accelerating. GDP is flying. Jobs are flying. Wages are flying. Mr. President, you accomplished all of this by dramatically cutting corporate taxes. We got bonuses, wage hikes, increased spending and millions of new jobs. All of that led to increased consumer spending and 3% GDP. Brilliant.

But the perception is -- whether true or not -- that you left the little guy out of the party. The American people want a tax cut, too. You gained popularity because average taxpayers kept an extra $200 per month in their pockets, so think how wildly popular you'd be if they kept $1,000 per month in their pockets.

It's time to announce a Trump Green New Deal that will dramatically cut tax rates across the board for individuals. Drop the top rate from 38% to 28% for households with incomes below $650,000. Cut middle-class rates even more dramatically. And then the Trump economy will match the Reagan economy, too. Instead of 3% GDP, we'll hit 7.3%, as Reagan did in 1984.

If you make the Trump Green New Deal a central theme of your reelection campaign, you'll win an electoral landslide and win the popular vote convincingly, too. Don't listen to the "experts." They are usually wrong.

If it worked like a charm for the economy when you cut taxes for big business, it will work twice as well when you give the little guy a break. You can keep this Trump Miracle going for another decade with individual tax cuts.

And ignore the naysayers who claim we don't have the money. According to Democrats and their presidential candidates, there's plenty of money available to give away "free stuff." But no money to allow the heroes of America -- small-business owners, entrepreneurs and working men and women who pay into the system -- to keep more of their own money? I call bull.

Go ahead, Mr. President. Be bold. Announce the Trump Green New Deal. Instead of killing cows, you'll be putting a steak in every pot. And you'll be guaranteed landslide reelection.

Don't misunderstand the author. He is not talking about those who don't pay taxes in the first place. Like those on welfare.

I want a wall and full and total deportation before I care about taxes. We are being invaded. Where is the military we pay $700 billion for? Why aren’t they protecting the country? US citizens are losing their lives because of this. Everyday yet another potential killer of a US citizen invades this country and absolutely nothing is being done about it. Put the military on the border, close the border, anyone who sneaks in give the order shoot to kill.

The little guy already doesn’t pay taxes. And each time you cut taxes, even more are then totally off the income taxation list.

This system of income taxation is absolutely counter-productive.

Absolutely. It’s time the little guys paid their fair share. Not sarcasm.

We got some of our money back after the Trump tax cut.

The locals promptly raised taxes and siphoned off a huge chunk of it.

More than that, if you aren’t a taxpayer you should not be allowed to vote.

I agree. Everyone should have skin in the game. Those netting a gain in tax receipts should not get to vote for more.

That always happens with federal income tax cuts. The states and locals see an opportunity to raise their tax rates. Sometimes I wonder if that isn’t the plan in Congress.

And then Congress gets around to re-raising rates eventually.

As Taxman says, the only fair tax is a sales tax. He had a great list the other day of the benefits of a fair/sales tax. Maybe he could repost it here.

When a person is totally off the tax rolls, then I can claim that I have a greater investment in the country than they do.

It’s a numeric fact.

I want the illegal invasion stopped and reversed way before I want another tax reduction.

I also don’t want 7.4% growth. It is too much. Much better sustainable 3% or so. Inflation is brutal and the changes it makes never go away. Recessions come and go. If it is to be inflation though and if 20% zero coupon bonds ever do reappear I promise to sell everything I can and buy all of the longest term ones I can lay my hands on.

The guy is full of crap. $1,000 a month to anyone in the 38% bracket hardly moves the needle on their world.

Some of our taxes are way too high. Some are not high enough. The lower class don’t even have a dog in the hunt. They need to pay SOMETHING in exchange for their misused and misguided vote.

Honestly, I have no sympathy for lowering taxes though. My working days are over and I managed to get here through a maze of even higher taxes than we have now. Now with lower taxes I have two words for those who pay them, Manage Better.

With state deductions now limited I can see why those in higher brackets and high tax states are crying. They need to brighten the corner where they live or move to a better situation but don’t bring their troubles or politics with them.

If anyone needs a tax cut it is retirees who are paying taxes on earnings from money they already paid taxes on. I figure I’ve paid enough to last at least one lifetime.

Lastly, and I repeat, the author is full of crap. Such a high middle class tax cut as he suggests would have little impact on either votes or the economy and would be political poison.

We couldn't be more appart on this. We are coming out of a depression and 7% growth should be the norm for many, many years.

Lowering marginal tax rates INCREASES Federal revenue over the long run.

True but in what universe will that ever happen?

In the world of my dreams nobody that paid less than $10,000 in federal income tax a year in a 5 year period would ever get a vote. Of course that is a dream that will never come true but it would also lead to a revolt of the masses eventually, or maybe not.
