Oliver North Is out as NRA President
CEO Wayne LaPierre has won an internal battle for control

National Rifle Association President Oliver North is leaving the gun-rights organization, after losing a bruising internal political battle with the group’s longtime CEO, Wayne LaPierre.
Mr. North, in a letter read to NRA members Saturday morning at the group’s annual meeting in Indianapolis, said he had hoped to be renominated for a second one-year term as president, but “I am now informed that will not happen.”
The departure of Mr. North, a conservative folk hero from his days as an Iran-Contra figure, comes after Mr. LaPierre sent a letter to the NRA board accusing Mr. North of trying to extort him and force him out over allegations of financial improprieties.
Mr. North previously told the executive committee of the NRA’s board about new allegations involving Mr. LaPierre personally, including a claim that the NRA chief had charged more than $200,000 of wardrobe expenses to an NRA vendor.
In his letter, Mr. North referred to those allegations and recent media articles about NRA insiders profiting from the group, saying “there is a clear crisis that needs to be dealt with quickly and responsibly.” He also said that, if true, the allegations could threaten the NRA’s nonprofit status.

Don’t know much about it, but from the article, it sounds like Ollie was trying to clean things up in the organization & stepped on too many toes.

This is unfortunate - Oliver North is a good guy, but Wayne Lapierre is also a good guy ….

1) allegations real and went to the media because couldn’t get anything done inside.
2) Personal fight?
3) NRA is probably not without corruption - lots of money
4) Allegations real and board didn’t waqnt publicity. Will deal with it internally?
5) Allegations NOT real and what is North up to?
6) La Pierre is too well entrenched? Maybe need new blood?

By saying this North is practically guaranteeing that the groups nonprofit status is going to be investigated.
The NRA is two things at the same time:
A relentless defender of 2nd Amendment Rights,
and
A complete shill for the firearms industry.
I joined the NRA to show support for the 2nd Amendment.
Who runs it is irrelevant.
Any board that has 72 members is asking for trouble.
Too big, too inefficient, too easy to escape accountability

In the letter, LaPierre links the ouster threat to the NRA’s longtime PR firm, Ackerman McQueen, which the NRA recently sued for not being transparent about its spending, including on North’s multi-million-dollar NRATV contract.

I choose to stand and fight, and hope to bring 5 million members with me.”

Good riddance. Didn’t understand why they brought North in, he added nothing, and got a $2 Million dollar salary?! Bye. I am a life member and would like to see anyone involved out as well. NRA needs to clean house and start living like a non-profit.

The deal with Ollie and his consulting group was explained to me this a.m., and sounds to me like Ollie’s stance would have really hurt the NRA. Glad he is out.
