The US President could reportedly be treated to an official banquet at Buckingham Palace and a carriage procession down the Mall during his second official trip.
His first visit as US president, in July last year, triggered widespread protests across Britain and saw the flight of the unflattering Trump baby blimp.
The two-day trip was classed as a working visit, rather than a full state visit, as it was not hosted by the Queen.
During his time in the UK, Trump enjoyed a dinner at Blenheim Palace with Prime Minister Theresa May and met with the Queen at Windsor castle, before jetting off to Scotland to play golf.

I really, really, don’t want Trump to ride in an open carriage through the streets. There is no way to protect him under those circumstances, imho.

A full state visit would more or less require the Prince of Wales, and the Duke of Cambridge to be in attendance - at least in the State Dinner, along with their wives.
And they would do so.
I know them - they are nothing like the caricatures of them presented in the press.
The Duke of Edinburgh might not attend, because he has now retired from public duties, so his attendance would not actually be required. But I suspect he would attend if well enough to do so.

I think it’s a consolation prize and to tell Trump that Brexit isn’t going to happen. Furthermore I think every royal member of the family invited will attend and will not be given the opportunity to duck out or they rue the decision to duck out.

I'm not sure if you know London, but while nowhere could ever be entirely safe, it is among one of the easiest areas in the world to secure in terms of risk to dignitaries travelling down it. It's basically parkland and government owned and controlled buildings along nearly all of the route, and the few exceptions belong to organisations that fully cooperate with the security services.
There's a reason this route has been used for such parades for the last century.
It would be up to President Trump whether he wanted the parade in the carriage, and some previous Presidents haven't done so for security reasons. But it really is as close to a safe route as anywhere on Earth can be.
The route can also be lined with soldiers from the Foot Guards (and these men are now hardened combat veterans in many cases) with the Household Cavalry in attendance. And the Queen is in the carriage too - so they would be protecting her as well.
And it doesn't have to be an open carriage - the Australian State Coach and the Diamond Jubilee State Coach, despite looking just like the old style coaches are both of modern construction and while security details about them don't get published, it's pretty well understood they have the same type of protections as modern day VIP cars. These enclosed coaches have been used for processions on state visits in the past.
Charles will probably be hanging out with his Religion of Peace buddies instead.
I did not get why only the queen showed up for trump’s first state visit. the other royals were... what? coincidentally scheduled that day due to prior commitment to be busy fox hunting? I took it as a gross insult to Trump and to the USA. These people are on the public dole by virtue of nothing but their birth. Their low morals and disdain for so-called “ordinary people” are evident, on public display for all to see, except for the queen, who probably had to stand for hours while soldiers paraded by and marching bands repeated songs on the parade grounds waiting for trump to arrive. i recall having felt sorry for both of them. hopefully for the sake of the british people, trump will use the opportunity to drop a verbal bomb or three up the wazoo of people who schemed to thwart the people’s will and lie about their intentions to honor the 2016 referendum.

Because it wasn't a State Visit - it was an official visit. And the protocols for these are different. The Queen always meets a visiting Head of State even if the visit isn't a state visit, but other members of the Royal Family generally do not.
There was nothing unusual in them not being there.
A formal State Visit will be different. The Prince of Wales (and his wife) and the Duke of Cambridge (and his wife) would be expected to be in attendance at the State Dinner, alongside the Queen. At least two or three other senior members of the family would also be in attendance, the idea being to ensure there are enough royals there that all the VIPs get a reasonable to interact with at least one of them, but obviously people like the Duke of York, or the Duke of Kent, or the Earl of Wessex will be spending more time with other guests beside the Guest of Honour (in this case, President Trump).
(I used to be a protocol officer for Her Majesty's Australian Government, and had to interact a lot with similar people working for Her Majesty's (Britannic) Government. Understanding this stuff was my bread and butter).
I suspect the President's own security people may try to persuade him not to do it - and they might succeed. But that's between him and them. It won't be because the British government doesn't want it to happen - while there are certainly some people in the British government who don't like Trump, they wouldn't be allowed to hand out that sort of insult.

It’s the last big anniversary of D-Day and everybody knows it. They’ll all go as a sign of respect to the Anglo-American alliance. No matter how much they hate POTUS.
Amazing, wonderful, honourable Christian woman, our Queen Elizabeth. Unfortunately, I can’t express the same sentiments for the heir apparent.

I think the planning has really nothing to do with modern politics. D-Day and the American presence WW2 Britain are very important to the Brits.
